group name taken...

category: general [glöplog]

Well, 2/3 members of the group I'm in have decided to change the group name...

Upon further research...

The name is already being "used" by some sort of "warez" group...

Should we avoid using this name?

It's not a major warez group and I don't even think they are active anymore...

Sorry, it is kind of a silly question...

But the group thought I should ask...

Thanks.

As a personal experience, we only got to know that both an Amiga and a warez group called Conspiracy exists after we released our first intro. (There's also a dutch Quake3 clan Conspiracy who we are friends with, kinda :)

I guess you should just make something more memorable than the warez group - you can rightfully claim the name if you live up to it better :)

I wonder if it's a good thing to live up to the name "Conspiracy" better than Amiga and warez groups...? :-)

I think the classy thing to do is to find another name, because you risk having to explain/defend yourselves at every step you take.

I remember having talked to a couple of dumb asses on #orion, asking for keygens. Fortunately, the "orion" warez group seemed to be good at it, so eventual leechers were rare and quite satisfied with their productions.

A massive advantage of an existing warez group with the same name as your demogroup : you could rip their nice logos, if needed ;)

So you're pirating the logos from the warez groups? You can't do that... the warez-ascii-artist need to LIVE from their income with warezgroup-logos!

if you go for it, atleast mention in the infofiles or webpage that you're not the same group. "just so you know"

Take the name and "translate" it into another language by keeping the existing letters. MadMan (too much to count) -> MadenMann (pretty unique, only some lame gamer arse is using that one).

I didn't know you play games?

ZING.
