Lossless demo music...?

category: general [glöplog]

i was sitting on the toilet, listening to Liquid Lust's music for the upmpteenth time when i realized, "wouldn't it be cool if i could use my bandwidth on distributing music from demos, losslessly, as God intended it?"

a) are there any collections of music from demos availible losslessly? and b) if not, anyone wanna help me start one? (or are the artists too attached to their awesome creations to release them in pristine condition? i'm particularly looking for like Moppi and some of Bitchards tracks he did for FLT and Kewlers (er, we cell, to be precise) .. and ASD, and and and....

I don't see why you're involving God into this.

you know you could go to LB's website (utfse), plank them. And then explain to the guy that you intend to give him free promotion.

tell me, what would be the point of lossless? nowadays people tend to know how to encode mp3s/etc so that you really need expensive equipment to hear the difference. and i guess most of us haven't got that..

Music is analogue but stored digital.
Lossless is therefor unreachable.

For recorded music that is, yes. But for computer synthesized music, no.
For example: A digitally synthesized and digitally low-passed sawtooth wave is never and was never analogue, so in that case "lossless" means regaining the very same bitstream as was put into the encoder. This is especially true for scene music, since most of the scene music was not recorded from analogue sources. And if you want lossless in that case, well get an Amiga/Atari/C64/Spectrum and play back the module there. :)

Even for music with analoguely sampled elements, lossless would mean generating the same bitstream the creator meant. The creator has probably added effects tol the sampled sound so that the originally sampled sound is not what is desired.
