What are the best DX8 Demos?
What are your favorites?
Thx Doc
Glon 243

And if DX8 also includes DX7: Platipus

Sure there are some more DX8 demos, but back then most demos moved from sw rendering to OpenGL first and it wasn´t until DX9 with shaders that DirectX became popular.

Feel free to scan for d3d8.dll import in order to find more DX8 demos, most demos do ot state the 3d api used, only glut and d3dx* dlls are obvious.

FR-019 was also nice!
still searching...
I love the DX8-era of demos. Doing an old-school DX8/XBox-Compo at a modern demoparty would be fun i think.

Here are some of my favourites:
thes S / Suspend
This Way / Stravaganza
mdma / 3pixels
Raw Confessions / Cocoon
Petroleo / BoaH
Planet Loop / Madwizards
Mechanical Dreams / Suspend
Lapsus / Maturefurk
.. but there are tons more which i can't remember atm ..

STS-03: Aeon Flux / Synesthetics (maybe also some other STS stuff works)

This one is awesome! I love the poppy, brightly colored, spotted dithering style.

Yeah, there are some more on that list. I interpreted the OPs question to mean „DX8 feature level“ (not strictly DX8 API) which would also include GL with early ARB/NV extensions (register combiners, VP1.0, etc.)

Looking at the EXE imports is one way.

Normally I stick to retro up to D5/6 now I upgraded to some faster machines with matrox DX7 and DX8 cards. G550/parhelia. I normally install the dx-version that the installed card features in hardware.

That demo was REALLY nice on SN45Gv1 with Matrox Parhelia 128MB Win2K.
