sync me beautiful

category: general [glöplog]

i need to give a lecture at a uni on trakked music; on the role and interaction of the musician in PC demoscene.

Hence wondering:
Not really looking for demos that have simply a great tune.. more importantly, looking for a close relevance between the visual and audio (A great tune and a demo thats not too long, is important, too).

For example
oribitalism by haujobb
d976 by kosmoplovci (for a contrast)...
tesla by sunflower

ideas?
thankz!

Are you suggesting that d796 doesn't have a relationship between the audio and the visuals? Because it's the best synced demo I've ever seen in my life.

For a good sync of the rhythm kind, I'd recommend Saint

Pornonoise has some cute sync, if I remember correctly.
god no, i love d976, one of the best demos ever! By contrast i only meant contrast to orbitalism, which has an equally effective but different approach to music.

Umm... The one that immediately pops into my head is Flash by Umlaut Designs. Horrid 1995-esque visuals, synchronized so exactly to the music that the first time I saw it I thought my computer had stuttered at exactly the right point.

You might wish to talk about ASD demos, whose relationship between the music and the visuals is a lot more loose and hence provides for opportunity of contrasts where others only want to emphasize. That is a good antithesis to the typical syncing.

does any of those demos actually have tracked music?

(plug) i did some sync on a tracked tune here (nothing else than sync in there, really).

orbitalism is certainly a bad example of "useful" sync.

best sync ever in a demo? hm.

Synthetmatik by Outracks
Kasparov by Elitegroup
Kolonija + D796 by Kosmoplovci
6th Lenin by United Force

poi: Aether is actually an example of overloaded syncing where you're unsure what actually happening is related to the music and what's just "there". A trick of good syncing is letting the syncronized events "breathe", leaving some headroom for the sync to actually happen.

friday at eight by polka brothers. And iconoclast to show where things are up to perhaps, seeing as streamed music is replacing tracked music for most stuff (except 64ks and below, of course)
