Pouet features

category: general [glöplog]
Why features like

- adding a video for a prod
- adding a youtube link for a prod

seem to be limited to administrators?
Is there a reason?

Thanks

otherwise ppl would be doing all kinds of crazy/stupid/messy things, like adding links to files in incoming directories and such.

Sorry for that :-D
But it was a serious question...

it was also a serious answer.

I can do that error once (inexperience), not two times.
It seems incoherent to me: you can upload screenshots but you can't add a video link...

i reckon that would give clueless morons/trolls/4chan hopovers/magic^nah the incentive to add all kinds of demoscene unrelated crap (e.g. burping sheep videos from youtube) to the pouet database only causing more work for the admins.
"morons/trolls/4chan hopovers/magic^nah"

:-)))

We could try to add this feature and see if it gets abused or if it's useful.
IMHO it would be less work for the admins.

friol: it would actually be much more work to monitor / keep track / filter all the crap added by trolls and various idiots.

A sensible solution would be to let the users make their corrections/additions, but cache those in a request query to be approved by an admin/glöperator. You could then have a "recent corrections" list, each entry reading "user xyz changed abc. change approved by 123" or something like that. Dunno if it would be more or less trouble for all involved, but it would be worth a try imho.

I've got an idea I've been toying with lately:

How about on a weekly or daily basis, taking all the oneliners and save them to a html file or whatever with the filename being whatever period the oneliners were taken from. May seem a bit silly, but there are usually some gems that get put up there and It'd be nice to keep the links active in the file.

Considering the files would be pretty small, It shouldn't be a strain on any servers, or would it?

Annnnyway, how about it?
I return to my question: why are users allowed to add screenshots and not links?

I don't see so many spam/fake pictures for prods (I didn't happen to see any at all, and I visit Pouet back from 2000).

Maybe there are trolls and idiots, but maybe they are 1% of all Pouet's audience...

How about a compromise: Allow adding video links from capped.tv and d.tv?

8bit: nothing's stopping you from DIY

friol: question has been answered by 2 gloperators now, move on already

salinga: compromises are always the worst solution

I agree with friol, actually you can add screenshots to new prods, so you can also upload goatse images or 4chan shit stuff, and this never happened. i admit adding screenshots to existing prods without admin operation can be risky but for new prods all features for admins should be accessible for us.

Rowley you little bugger. :P
Concerning the prods section the situation is better to remain as is. We wouldn't want messed up prods, would we?
