Are you kidding? The kids round there think "concreting a cow" is good weekend entertainment! The place couldn't be more wrong.

Great ideas for both places, cant wait to see how this progresses.. i'll help all I can even if it means doing something at the party or pre party promotion / invite material if required.

whatever ends up happening, please send a slide or something to @party . . . as someone part of a small scene trying to grow, I really want to support the UKscene! Somehow I feel like our cases are similar . . .

yeah, the NEC / NIA would be a good call - it has a shit ton of space, broken up into halls of various sizes, it's next to an airport and has a train station attached to it :)
However, I suspect it is on the expensive side :/

i really like this hotel party idea and it's even something ive considered before. firstly because im too old for this shit, and hotels at parties really appeals. :)
and secondly because it means the party would offer something different to other parties around the world - it's not just another demoparty but in a different country, it's a different deal entirely - something that would appeal to likeminded foreign sceners too.

if we could find a place that was cool with the noise, the all night continuation etc, was a reasonable price (~£100 per person) and convenient for an airport (and by that i mean heathrow or stanstead) it'd be great. throw in a load of comfortable seating, nice facilities, get the hotel to cater.. :) an upmarket demoparty!

Ahh,. it's so bad I missed this party. I am not far now, I could have easily taken the train, so many people I would like to meet there.

But it was right exactly at the most critical date with my final project and I had only 10% of the writting 4 days ago.
But then I was still crazy considering one Saturday night going. Nope. I thought it three times and reconsidered it four.
And my final project was crap and I was frustrated and now I am wasted like a duck.

:P

Hotel demoparty definitely sounds cool :)

There's one point I'd be worried about tho: Chances are that at some point instead of a room full of people socializing you'll end up with 20 cliques having separate private parties in their hotel rooms instead. Ok, probably not THAT bad - but I've learnt from other festivals that when people got too lazy/convenient to camp and started sleeping in hotels instead, it got really hard to keep them together or even find them when you wanted to party. Phone bills got almost higher than the hotel ones. :)

The insidious Fairlight, denizens of hotel rooms at countless parties.

A winning formula.

1. Turn up, check in at hotel.
2. Spend 52 hours constantly producing demo.
3. Win competition, collect prize. Give £20 to Reed.
4. Repeat.

is reed that cheap nowadays? also, shouldn't he split that money with vangelis et al?

Reed gets money for nothing and his chicks for free.

yay. Can't remember the entry fee, but it sure was way less than 104 UKP, and included food and booze!

Of course, not trying to compare but... :)

I got home from Edinburgh to find a nice little message for me - a venue that I had written off have considered my request for a quote and come back with a *very* attractive package.

Not only is the conference facility large, it has 150 rooms attached at very cheap rates, has a swimming pool/fake sauna and gym included in the ticket price, alcohol licence and restaurant, plus is in a city centre with plenty of bars/cinemas/shopping centres for those with wives/families etc, a Nandos, 1 minute walk from a mainline railway station, 5 mins drive from the motorway... Seems perfect!

Unfortunately, they won't give me hard pricing until I go see them - but things are most certainly looking up for a hotel-style party in the UK =)

i'd definitely would be interested in a hotel party, brighton is a nice location for sure! and ryanair does tampere-edinburgh so that could be good for finns.

but, be sure that it's ok for the hotel that there's 24h action, so that they dont want to put music down at 4am or something. also, breakfast buffet should be included in the price!

this spring i paid 200 pound for a festival ticket (which included a hotel room) so 100 pound would seem reasonable to me if it comes with a room.

nosfe: Edinburgh is like 400 miles/600km away :)

This is planned to be all inclusive for about £100, that's what I'm working off. I'm not far ahead of that at the moment, I'm working on it and should have something nice to present soon!

We may have to include Evoke as a possible UK party, particularly if negotiations succeed to allow Deutsche Bahn to run train services between London and Frankfurt, via Brussels and, more importantly, Cologne (Koln) !

Check out this interesting article here (new as of posting) from the guy behind seat61.com -

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/sep/19/london-frankfurt-train-high-speed

According to the article we should pay no more than 41 ukp each way for trips between London and Cologne (assuming that is just to the Hauptbahnhof: expect to pay a bit extra for travel to Evoke's location within the city.

Food for thought eh ...

Not really, £41 each way is more than what I paid to fly from Manchester to Cologne; not to mention that travelling to London and back would cost me that much again.

I'm sure it's very convenient for those that live in or around London though.
