- Sagacity: I’m just making a point that there’s no way to truly define a 64k intro. No matter how much you dissect them, they’re always going to use resources outside of the 64k executable (even if it is only Bios interrupts).
Conversely, if a 64k intro is to be defined only by the size of its executable, then the entire resources of the OS are at the coder’s disposal – which could even be extended to include any samples and images included during installation (unless it’s explicitly forbidden by the rules of the competition).
I wouldn’t even try to argue one way or another, I’m just pointing out some ambiguities in the 64k category. But in And’s defence, he didn’t break any rules, he just made the most of a loophole. :)

- 64k Windows svenskarna är här (järn&stål&auw) by Cryonics [web]
- The shouting grated on my nerves a bit, but other than that the soundtrack was excellent (I'd expect nothing less from Steffo), and while the scenes could have used a more appealing colourscheme, I still found it a pretty decent intro.

- gf4 mx 440 here too, but the demo runs like a slideshow. A fix would be greatly appreciated if possible!
But going on the DIVX version, this is a masterpiece! I adore the concept and the design is breathtaking! The music isn't to my taste, but I couldn't imagine any other soundtrack being more well suited to the demo. - rulezadded on the 2003-08-19 18:53:07
- demo Windows A Study in Lines and Textures by Traction [web]
- Not my thing at all. I liked the water ripples, but everything else was forgettable.
I won't thumb it down though as it's not a bad demo; it's just not to my taste. - isokadded on the 2003-08-19 18:44:01
- 4k Amiga AGA Fistpig by Spaceballs [web] & Ephidrena
- One of my favourite 4k intros to date. Exceptional work!

- I adored the effects, but I thought the music and design were below average (a big surprise coming from the design god Thorsten).

- Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who liked this intro as I wouldn't want to be accused of being biased. But I absolutely loved it!! The physics, the music and the graphics all looked fantastic to me.
I was underserving of my name on the credits though as I barely contributed anything. Much to my regret!

- 64k Windows Zoom 3 by AND [web]
- I have yet to see this intro on my own computer, but with regards to using windows speech and fonts, I suppose it technically violates the 64k rule, but then so do external libraries, direct x drivers, not to forget the OS in general. Anything that requires Windows to run isn't fundamentally a 64k intro.
So what exactly are the rules of making a 64k intro?
I think And is just shouldering the criticism for being the first (but probably not the last)to use these particular features, just as many previous 64k intros were probably criticised for using external libraries and drivers at the time of their release.
The sad thing about this is that it kinda undermines the purpose of the 64k limitation, which has to be disheartening for some coders (especially those who have worked so long and hard making voice synths). - isokadded on the 2003-08-19 18:12:09

- It looks ok, but runs at something like 1 frame per minute here.
