- demo Amiga AGA Step by Step by Elude [web]
- shouting "rip" at this when its such a total obvious send-up seems a bit like shouting "rip" at this.

- 4k procedural graphics Windows Spilled by Archee [web]
- great raytracer, but it really needed more, smaller particles for the sim to look good.

- 64k Linux Windows ephemera by Approximate [web]
- probably the current leader of the (ableit limited) 64k class of 09. the textures (the wood) and the lighting are the highlights of the show, followed by the meshes.
approximate are coming on in leaps and bounds as they get more comfortable with finishing things and releasing them - this makes 3 in the last year, congrats! the question that remains to be answered is where they go from here. if they want to make a great 64k, not just a competent 64k, they need to go beyond summarising whats gone before and start adding something new. i look forward to seeing what they do next.

- 64k Windows write me please by f0x
- time and time again im amazed by how these guys manage to take some potentially great ideas and content and then completely ruin them by bizarre rendering bugs and post processing.
honestly, id love to know the reason. - isokadded on the 2009-09-03 10:07:15
- 4k Windows Muon Baryon by Youth Uprising & Ümlaüt Design [web] & Outracks [web]
- decipher: ok, you asked for criticism.. :)
this distance field tracing stuff is pretty well understood by now, and just doing it isnt enough to impress anymore. the challenge now is to a) make some interesting content beyond distorted primitives and b) make it run fast. i dont feel either was achieved here.
that said, your ao approximation is one of the best ive seen with this technique. :) build on it! - isokadded on the 2009-08-21 10:00:58
- demo Windows The golden path by United Force [web] & Digital Dynamite [web]
- maali: damnit, we were trying to keep the transformers reference quiet, it'd ruin it for all the people who thought we were being completely original with the concept of a car turning into a robot.

- there's a line here. every demo takes inspiration from other sources. you would be naive to think otherwise.
for me the definition of ripping vs inspiration is that ripping adds nothing new - it takes a single source and copies it. inspiration involves adding your own spin, mixing sources and improving on it to produce something new.
if you want to know if a particular case is good or bad, ask yourself: if i had seen the original first, what would i think of this? - isokadded on the 2009-08-10 15:53:27
- 64k Windows Hotel Bar Heroes by Portal Process
- clean and competent.
im afraid it looked a bit too much like an upgraded 4k though - it needed better lighting (SSAO doesnt cut it here), the scenes were a bit too simplistic and the music+visuals tread a well worn path. - isokadded on the 2009-08-10 14:39:09
- demo Windows The golden path by United Force [web] & Digital Dynamite [web]
- having seen the cassius video before this, it never had the "original" shine for me - and the other aspects (rendering/fx etc) are pretty rough, so for me it doesnt have that "wow" effect that other people experienced.
