- Thanks for the thumb. ;-)
Actually the dithering is the one that seemed to work best amongst any other I tried. It is the same dithering technique as the one used in TruC40 but this time the palette is fixed. It works very well in that other prod too.
I don't know what you consider weird in the dithering. Maybe it is the typical 8x1 alternating bands that appears. This is somehow a feature that I appreciate because it reminds me of the drawing technique that was used in some beatiful games for this platform (here or there)
Sound is one of the big issues for thomson machines. The CPU is so slow that one can either do video or produce sound, but hardly both. Actually very few production uses sound and video effects in the same time (Big Crunch in "Space project" is one of these).
Some specific features of the TO8 are actually used:
- double buffering during image transitition,
- fast load of pictures by préhisto routine.
However you are right. This demo could have partly worked on a plain TO7 machine with simpler transitions effects (and more flickering) and to accomodate for the long loading time, the audio chanel of the tape could have played music (like the WAV file for this game: http://dcmoto.free.fr/programmes/les-7-magiciens/index.html). But a 2hours tape would have been mandatory because this demo is 640Kb and the tape-hardware is only running at 900bauds.
Maybe the tape will be used in a future prod.. who knows.

- Cool for 512b. By the way for the tape version, you could have used escape sequences in the file name to clear screen, change colors an spare a couple of bytes.

- A video is available here: http://www.serveur87.com/forumthomson/forum2010/presentations4.html. Note that the output on the video is not as nice as on a real machine due to the low quality of the video.
A note about technical aspects: Basically the video mode is 160x200 with 16 colors. In this mode it is possible to display more than 16 colors by changing the palette on each scanline. However, the CPU is so slow, that it can barely change 1 (or 2) color(s) for each line otherwise ugly artifacts appear. Therefore the palette-flip technique can only be applied on images with similar colors along consecutives lines. See http://www.pulsdemos.com/colorschina.html for further explanation (in french, sorry).
This time, the trick is different and there is no limit on changes in colors across lines. Actually, the trick used here allow up to 216 different virtual colors to appear on screen, making it possible to have almost true-color pictures on a plain TO8 machine. - isokadded on the 2011-03-31 21:41:41

- A video is available here; http://www.serveur87.com/forumthomson/forum2010/presentations3.html. It is not as nice as on a real machine due to low framerate of the video, but it gives an idea.

- Pulko: if you want to grab the prod and make a youtube version, you can contact me to get a special version of TEO that correctly emulates the interlaced videos of CRT.

- @mic: As far as I know, comodore didn't sell any 6809e personal computer. Olivetti did sell some TOx clones under the name "prodest".
@pr90600: oops I forgot a word: you are right, this stuff is surely plain bullshit, since it doesn't work on my coffee machine too. - isokadded on the 2007-10-31 09:34:17

- To pr90600, it doesn't work either on a TO7 nor on a TO7/70, nor on an Atari nor on an Amiga.. Your're this stuff is probably bullshit.. but did you read the NFO describing the required harware ?

For my personnal interrest, what kind of machine also uses a 6809e? I've read about the Dragon and the Coco, but I don't know which kind of effect was achieved on these platform. - isokadded on the 2007-10-30 20:01:41
