- demo Windows Butterfly Thoughts by Traction [web]
- I think the first minute or so is pretty awesome even if I say so myself, until the end of the cube scene. The rest is pretty uninspired and I bet the weird graphics could have been used better.
I wasn't going to release this at Breakpoint, but I borrowed the computer from the Conspiracy guys and after working on it a bit and after announcing that I'm just not gonna bother, an almost-sleeping BoyC kicked me from under the table and told me to finish it. So I did.
Butterfly Dreams will be made some day... - isokadded on the 2013-05-25 22:31:02
- demo Windows Dead Blue People by Traction [web]
- Trivia: this was originally attempted for Escape 2000 (or 2001, I don't remember) as a non-textmode demo, but it couldn't be finished in time because we had no idea how to code. Then after hearing about TMDC we dug up the few fx we'd done, the music and the art and did a conversion. Vulture did the engine and the groundwork and some effects, I tweaked the rest. I think it's silly, and a nice continuation from The Blue Man.

- demo Windows Traction by Traction [web]
- I tried it with a black background, but it somehow felt "wrong". The white creates a cleaner, more pure vision of reverberating space, which was what I was after here.
It's a matter of taste, of course, but I don't necessarily agree with the big screen argument. Sure, a lot of people will probably find it boring (and the organizer's comment reflects on that), but I'd rather watch a hundred ambient flybys than rasterbars made with OpenGL or run-of-the-mill trance demos. Besides, a boring demo is a great time to go get a beer refill :D
I somehow tried to revisit this aesthetic with Rowan Berries, and I try again at some point. - isokadded on the 2013-05-25 15:44:40
- demo Windows Eight scenes of human life by Traction [web]
- It was never meant to be released in this form, I was just toying around with the primitive glow filter that I came up with but then decided to put it up on Pouet on a particularly beautiful and cold autumn day (I still remember it for some reason, I put it up on Pouet and took a long two hour's walk by the seaside after that). The lyrics in the song somehow became relevant during the process and then I just decided to release it as is and not wait for a suitable soundtrack
The 'life' was meant to be a sort of a transformation. I had an idea of a sequel where it would pick up on that, but it never materialized. In retrospect I think the cubes should've turned into wireframes again, to make a loop. - isokadded on the 2013-05-25 15:23:49
- demo Windows I Am by Traction [web]
- Yeah, a lot of things clicked in the year between 2003 and 2004 for me.
The soundtrack was a funny thing... Grip is now a good friend of mine but back then we didn't know at all, and I got the soundtrack through a mutual friend. Two days before the party we were still missing two scenes IIRC, and I asked Grip if he could perhaps shorten the song a bit, because we didn't have enough content. He refused and we had to quickly come up with something. We shuffled the content around a bit and the oil ball scene and the last one were made in the last two days, in a hurry.
Also, a huge amount of the design itself was done at the partyplace in a ~40h marathon session with very little sleep. We submitted a very incomplete version to meet the deadline and then worked our asses off. I am still surprised how well it turned out, as this is still one of my favorite demos out of the ones that I've done. - isokadded on the 2013-05-25 15:18:35
- 4k MS-Dos Another Soul Lost by Traction [web]
- Trivia: this one was finished for Assembly 2002 already, but unfortunately there was a silly bug that prevented it from working properly. I fixed it at the party after the deadline, but they didn't accept it for the compo anymore. I think it would've done pretty well in the compo, but in a year evolution did its thing and this seemed really outdated at the party :)

- demo Windows A Study in Lines and Textures by Traction [web]
- Yeah, this one is mostly mine while Vulture took the charge with the previous ones and I did only very minor things (and nothing for ForsakeN), hence the change of style. Here I coded most of the content and did most of the design. IIRC the metaball scene and the falling triangles reflecting on the cube are by Vulture, the rest is by me.
