- 64k Windows Fortnight (Win32) by mfx [web] & Farbrausch [web]
- beautifull, marvellous atmosphere even if i'm not allways in the mood to enjoy it..
colors are just wonderfull.
forget all rgb modes it's now time for yuv ones. the colors look so different, i haven't seen any intro exploring those kind of colors before.
effects are great, especially those days where most rendering is accelerated, it's nice to see some magical looking 2d stuff.
refreshing stuff. and using some video in an intro is something rare, last one i remember was a coma intro.
the music was really nice too.
though a bit unfinished, not that perfect, effets don't look as clean as super luxus lemmen paketti. but well they ran a bit out of time..
and the tp11 intro compo at 5 in the morning mostly destroyed it.
thanks kb and ript for taking some time to port it to windows. i guess it was a hard job ..
and nice act from FR in giving half of their intro prize to mfx, respect. - rulezadded on the 2002-02-27 13:53:41
- demo MS-Dos Square by Pulse [web]
- one of the best demos,
made by some of the most talented people at this time.
also their last one, they stopped doing demos after this.
at the same time a technically conservative demo (using vga) and a great step on the
conceptual side: it had a really cute design ages before that flat+wireframe numedia
trend.
it doesn't need a lot of words to describe how nice it is, just enumerate the people who
made it :
code of statix, particles of dune, music of shad, graphics of haplo..
nothing to say more on that point..
but what makes it one of the greatest demos is the way the effects are going, astonishing transitions, marvellous style, and looping video ending effect.
nice style,
for sure underrated at tp. - rulezadded on the 2002-02-23 22:37:15
- 64k MS-Dos hplus by Halcyon
- strange, abstract, clean, aliased, catchy, antialiased, unique, dirty, inanimate, ugly, marvellous, slow, beautiful, blue, aquatic, repetitive, grey, fast, continuous, alive, underwater, timeless, infinite, discrete, moody ..
many words to describe it, but it's actually much more.
hplus is everything but a demo.
just from the first seconds over that infinite grid to the same infinite grid, you're caught inside this world.
don't look at it like you would do for any other demo. hplus is different, not that it's not made like other demos, but it has a different feeling that can't be seen by just comparing the code or the design to those other ones.
just watch it in the dark, not with headphones, but with some decent hi-fi at a quite strong volume. screen is less important, the bigger is the better of course, but best have a nice audio than video.
don't watch it a row of demos like a demoshow, when you're expecting it to be like the rest. better watch it after making something your eyes weren't focused on, like back from a club/rave, back from having a talk ..
don't watch it if too many people are here to avoid interference.
gus or sb sound different, i like both versions. gus sounds cleaner, sb sounds more precise.
it really can't be described with words, it's such a unique experience. i often ask myself why am i in love for this. yeah, it doesn't look nice in fact, those textures are really ugly, the color of the particles is just some pure rgb blue, the 3d engine doesn't look clean, it sounds like underwater recorded.
but each time i watch hplus those facts just became just details.
just a calm particle flow entering a box, then inside, with some pure wonderfull camera focusing, not at something particular that's not displayed but inside the particle flow.
and the music really starting, a tunnel then, music, particles, tunnel and camera moving in a perfect dance. transfiguration, a corridor, great lighting effects, lights notes played and then the masterpiece: particles arround that sphere. and the final transition finnishing over an unexpected end : halcyon hplus(+)
hplus itself is a wonder, actually those ugly details i talked before make hplus more attractive to me, hplus doesn't need to look good to be as great as it is. i would have loved it differently if it looked better. perhaps less.
yes it is based on a 3d engine, but it's simply better in my eyes than any 3d show i've seen (fitting in 64kbyte or not).
actually i can't really say why i love it.. just pure emotion each time i enjoy the experience.
it took me lot of time to appreciate it.
it's not the demo i watch the most tough, i still want to watch it only when i'm sure i'll love it.
definitely my favourite scene production. - rulezadded on the 2002-02-21 00:21:58
