- demo Windows Amethyst by Traction [web] & deMarche
- top tips when doing a glow effect:
- try and CLAMP the image, dont WRAP, then you dont get crap at the top/bottom of the screen for example
- try not to make the rendertarget so low res that it looks nasty. (and that goes double for the original input image, try copying it off the backbuffer rather than a low res rendertarget)
- try to avoid making the jitter steps so huge that you can see lines in the result
- try and preserve colour bit res where ever possible so you dont get something that looks like a 3 bit image out of it.
hope that helps.
otherwise, if this was 4 years ago, had good music, had attitude, pace, sync and was called variform by kewlers, it would have been a good demo. :) as it is, it's a traction demo with ancient fx and glow on top. sorry. - isokadded on the 2006-05-21 13:06:33
- 64k Windows Meet The Family by Fairlight [web]
- there's a bugfix available here:
http://www.scene.org/file_dl.php?url=ftp://ftp.scene.org/pub/parties/2006/breakpoint06/in64/flt_meetthefamily_bugfixed.zip&id=
that should fix the problems some people had with it crashing after the loading bar (except for some older win2k configs). - isokadded on the 2006-05-16 11:54:39
- 64k Windows Icemachine Revolution by Brain Control [web]
- it's a bit messy (glooow, and too many layers), it's far too slow, and the music doesnt fit the prod at all. mcp was better (maybe because of more graphician influence on that one? :) )
that said, it deserved a much higher place. my personal pick for 2nd.
just optimise that damn engine+synth a bit for next time and add more modelling power above primitives, and it'll kick :)

- love the soundtrack. and it's good to see extruded spline geometry hasnt died yet. ;) some irritating bugs (jumpy timing and intersecting geometry), and it's technically not much, but this is one of my favourite bp 64ks.

- i really like the soundtrack, but the idea and style feels so old and stale now.

- demo Windows Moonstone by Nah-Kolor [web] & anadune [web]
- curious. really an excellent soundtrack, but the visuals.. some pretty reasonable modelling work and a splattering of nice 2d, but then half the 3d looks like it had a coder-made texture applied with generated texcooords, and as for the apparently "code-based" scenes, they were pretty horrible. didnt like the font/text gfx at all either.
very much lacking in consistency or design, didnt work with the music at all.
it kind of looks like the artists gave a random collection of work to the coders, and they stuck it together and finished it off. could have been a lot better.
