- This is fucking ridiculous. The bar has been set for diskmag interfaces. This is what the term 'intuitive' means - when you don't have to read somebody's semi-gibberish instructions and then end up relying on a combination of mouseclick-acrobatics and blind fucking luck. Great articles and music too :)

- diskmag Windows Amiga PPC/RTG Hugi #34 - World of Scene by Hugi [web]
- Has a really interesting editorial piece about some guy who, it seems, did a programming tutorial while upside down on the surface of Mars being nibbled to death by marmots at the age of only 12 years old!
Seriously, though - it's worth the bloated (or the slightly less bloated, but still bloated) download just for the Shane article, which as well as being informative and fun, should hopefully relieve the dead horse of popular misconception from its years of being flogged. - rulezadded on the 2008-02-22 17:17:44

- diskmag Windows pain #59 (12/07) final by Pain Staff [web]
- I've never begrudged a diskmag interface that takes a bit of figuring out - it's not like learning where the windscreen wipers are on a new car; y'know, something you'll have to learn to get used to for daily use over years to come. Each diskmag is a single or double use thing, usually, and it's part of the idea of having somebody else's authorial intent presented to you for you to judge privately. It would be just as daft to lavish disproportionate praise upon a 'good' interface as to lambast a 'bad' one, and pouet is pretty much the only place where that's become habitual - as if it's expected of commenters. Hand/eye transparency is sort of what most UI designers are trying to achieve, and when do they ever get it perfect? What - like with operating systems? All those perfect operating systems? Like there's anyone who's happy with a Linux distro that they haven't tweaked to their own preferences? Well for the half hour that I spend reading a diskmag, I'm buying into the authors' way of doing things for a very small portion of my life and I'll not waste time moaning.
No thumb since I contributed...but a good read :]
Actually, fuck it - have your thumb. - rulezadded on the 2008-01-30 19:58:20
