Experimental stuff and actually enjoyable. Cool music and nice colors. A vsync option wouldn't hurt tho.

At first I thought this would be boring, but I really started to enjoy it more and more the further it got.

haha, insane.. thumb up for the idea and the music.. and it actually does get enjoyable after a while..

Nice idea. Maybe a hologram demo (i.e. REAL 3D) would be the next (biiig) step.

Endearing. "Experimental" and "simple", yet not shitty.

pretty amazing for 1d, and a surprisingly enjoyable demo too

a nice concept, which could have been pushed a bit further, with more syncs ( plus the music is really geared for synching )

nice music, nice effect, but i don't really see the connection between them.. cool idea anyway.

this could easily end up like some joke prod once seen and forgotten forever. respect for how you were able to get this much out of it. nice synchronization and flow.

I never thought it would be possible to make something that cool in 1D! Big ups for your work.

And Optimus: I'd thought that too if I hadn't seen it in full length. but it's more than just the funny idea!

Yes, that's what I see now I watch it too. And a lot of people before me. Beautifull colors =)

most original demo i've seen in ages.
excellent music, excellent design.

with vlp we had a 1d effect in our haskell demo at alternative party 2, though we had other effects also.
shit, i just realised that i don't even have a copy of that.

Hm. As a Demo I don't like it that much. But please release it as a Screensaver. :o

well, not as one-dimensional as I had expected, but some would say it's art. A very well deserved thumb up anyhow. Expecting a sequel in 1.5d.

I actually think this is entertaining. The music is good, and the different "effects" are interesting enough for some reason.

However, what I was constantly expecting was vertical rasters, like rotating and 3d-projected bars or something. That would've raised this from being "nice" to "ace". I expect to see that in the sequel :)

A technical thumb down: Your 1D demo isn't 1D if you neglect the VSync and have several frames at once on the screen.

So, simple idea, but you stumbled at the first hurdle. Sorry ;)

Maybe I would have laughed about it if it was just a 30 second fastintro. But as a demo running for several minues it just plain sucks.

You’ve seen the result of our experiments with this concept. We don’t plan a sequel, though we might make an improved final version (more effects, no framelimiter). I could only get this demo to its audience by boring some others to death – sorry!

kb: v1.02 is vsynced. Non-ddraw rendering is for compatibility with old systems.

At the compo I was sooo taken by the pure idea. But turning a very simple idea into something I can watch for some minutes is not simple. This could have been a very thrillling study on the effect of colors and compositon. I expected more: a piggy
btw: I reminded me on some Designer' s Republic-stuff.

Interesting that they even tried to make an entire demo out of this one simple concept. It is, surprisingly, quite watchable, although does start to get tedious. Hopefully there won't be a huge influx of copy-cat.
I expected a fake at BP, but it turned out quite well-done and enjoyable. Nice stuff!

I think it would have gained a LOT by being displayed vertically. We humans are more accustomed to seeing an horizon, and we relate a lot more to those multiple horizons interacting vertically. (I mean simply, I just tried watching it in TATE mode and it rocked :)

Gargaj, yeah it was pretty obvious this was the reason why the colors were chosen to move vertically. But I think this was a bad move aesthetically. Ok and maybe I am in love with the 3/4 aspect ratio!

Wonderful idea and good execution except that it maybe goes on for a little bit too long.

This goes for showing how much is achievable even in such a constrained environment. Several different effects are displayed. Beautiful gradients and other kinds of nicely animated patterns.

Obviously it's more than just an idea, it's a very good realization of the idea. Seems like a lot of though went into what exactly is shown.

You do realize the demo is technically 2D, since it has a time dimension, right?

This was *way* more interesting than I thought it would be... the only things I didn't see were the obvious ones, the parallax scroller (in 1D) or the 2001: A Space Odyssey style slitscan move.

Ok, an original concept of course, but I was a little bit disappointed because there is quite a bit more you could have done with this idea and the time! Thumb up (but it was a narrow decision!)

Stylish! Actually, some of the patterns induced 2D counter-pattern in my brain. (A sort of overlay of horizontal lines) Yes, my brain is fucked.

Gem: May I request a version that uses the Y axis as to denote the time dimension?
In other words:
1) Draw the pattern at the bottom line of the screen
2) Move the screen contents one pixel up
3) Goto 1
:D Thanks in advance!
rulez added on the 2007-11-05 16:18:29 by nitro2k01 nitro2k01
nitro: well, that would spoil the fun ;) but you're right, that's what your brain should do, as some of the effects are image scrollers.

it's obviously fun to be able to show you anything without you taking notice... but there's no porn or otherwise disturbing images in the public release ;)
