Can someone please get a screenie of this? My poor print screen key won't work for this...

Basically a first 1k attempt with GLSL and GCC. Not the greatest looking, in fact far from it - but I accomplished my goal.

Source is included. And yes, in GCC Auld's GenFP thing actually hurts the size really bad. This is due to the fact that GCC doesn't to cross-optimizing like VC++ does, so the double typecast takes an extra 20 or so bytes.

I also might add I did this in two days :)

And huge thanks to Auld and everyone at in4k.untergrund.net!!

done, screenshot added (I usually implement a regular windows message loop for the debug configuration, that way it's possible to take screenshots. For your prod I used Fraps)

Nice tunnel. Keep going!

White screen sounds like a shader issue, I'm guessing your cards don't support ps3.0

Also thanks iq for the screenie :)

No ps 3.0 on a new radeon 4870? What? :)
Lol sorry should've checked the card's specs before I presumed :P

I'm surprised still though, but to be perfectly honest I know almost nothing about the architectural differences between nvidia and ati cards so I can't be much of a help here...I just know the screen goes white whenever the shader fails to compile...driver issue maybe? Sorry I can't help much...

or maybe you just havent paid attention to the ATI shader compiler quirks when making the mistake of using opengl ;)
added on the 2008-12-03 15:22:08 by Gargaj Gargaj
No problem... I was looking forward to see the effect :) Seems ATI is a bit more strict with shaders, but I don't know much about the differences.
To be honest once again this was only "tested" on my machine and Decipher's; I coded this in two days and only the last 2 hours or so of it were spent size optimizing and when I got it low enough I cycled the colors etc...so yeah I paid no attention to any of that :P

Haven't tried on the ati hw yet, but amd shaderanalyzer says: "ERROR: 0:11: 'assign' : l-value required "x" (can't modify a varying)" (which is correct according to specs..).
Fixing that makes it compile, but fixing it with zero ekstra bytes will require a bit of rewriting. But nice you got the rest right, just the right number of .'s etc.

Great work. I liked the optimizations. By using older technology, this could have been done under 256 bytes. By using shaders, this should be very close to the limit.

Also a correction: I was looking at Chocolux's source today, and for the record Auld has already discovered the dangers of the GenFP cast...just sayin :)

Looks nice. On one of my PCs, it just fills the screen with a colour and then fades. This PC probably doesn't support OpenGL 2.0 yet.

Reading my comments, it looks like I haven't really given Decipher proper credits...

This started with me coding a small opengl framework and starting a simple shader. When i was about six bytes over the limit, I let Decipher have at it, and he and I (mostly he) ended up cutting around 70-90 bytes or so; then I finished the visuals.
