3D flyby :(
This demo is different every time you run it. Also, Solskogen 2012 was fantastic as always!

fist it asks if i trust the source and want to install it. then i get a message: "application could not be downloaded"
what the fuck are you doing?
added on the 2012-07-15 16:55:27 by v3nom v3nom
Please ignore the clickonce installer and just run the .exe. This archive was never meant to go on scene.org ;)
added on the 2012-07-15 17:00:35 by nerve nerve
thx, found the exe now. but i found the demo somehow boring, dunno if it was the music, the object or that nothing really happened on the screen

Looks great although it doesn't really go anywhere. I'll be rewatching it plenty of times though.

My favourite moment of Solskogen 2012. The prod is great, but not mindblowingly so; this mostly got to me on a more fundamental level. Thanks for blazing a trail into the unknown, and much respect!

I said god damn! Loving it. The music might have been a little too busy to fit the visual mood, but maybe that's hard to match with non deterministic content. Definitely my favourite of the party.

hm. piggie it is.
Really enjoyed this one. looked really cool on the big screen :-)
rulez added on the 2012-07-17 07:38:52 by Punqtured Punqtured
Well you could say this is an idm remix of something that is between chimera and 828 but I don't honestly think the intent was something like that. Either way, to me this isn't nearly as sublime as those two, or at least what I saw on the video wasn't. I'd really like to be able ton run this multiple times but my GPU at the moment is too shit. Still, one of the most memorable prods this year yet.
rulez added on the 2012-07-17 07:52:34 by noby noby
could have used more action. i guess we are back to the "lets rotate the same scene for 3 minutes"-era
Looks good, but overall a bit underwhelming. Yet, I want to see more EPH stuff on PC aka YouTube. :D

Gave me chills in the compo. Total awesomness!
What Config is needed to run it? Shit watching it on youtube seeing as it is a dynamic demo.
rulez added on the 2012-07-17 11:32:03 by tFt tFt
It runs fine on Geforce GTX460M and dual core Intel I7 1.73 GHz per core.

Windows performance index is around 7.1 fro the metrics that matter.

I want to make more dynamic demos in the future. the ambition for this demo was to just input a random seed and have transformers 4 without humans come out the other end. it needs some more work to get to this level of awesomeness. This was a pretty refreshing way to do a demo. Instead of spending ages on making content, you spend ages on tweaking the generators instead. Once they start to generate some good looking stuff you have a gold mine. In the future we could expand on what we have and hopefully add some more variation possibilities to the generators. There is a final in the works where the generated cameras are less keen on intersecting the geometry.

sry guys, but this doesn't really cut it. Basicly what rasmus said, and those shapes should be way more varied for that kind of show.

I liked neither the lasers nor the small flying objects. I didn't think I'd ever say this, but with the given concept I'd preferred a pure fly-by. Oh well, and apart from the nitpicking: Awesome! I love it!

Disappointed : very repetitive and could be done in 64Ko or maybe 4Ko...

I like the idea, but the demo I've seen was boring. Static background and cheap music didn't help.

Very enjoyable, good looking and sounding ok. Was expecting something to happen at the end because of the explosions.
rulez added on the 2012-07-19 13:32:34 by JuhoAP JuhoAP
first i though it would be cool with moving ships, but then i saw explosions? maybe "transformers versus chimera" feeling is there.

watched this one a few days ago, a couple of times to get different seeds. I think the concept is great but execution is not quite fully realised. Nonetheless, the thumb goes up!

Looks great but can't thumb it up because of the music. As soon as the kilinkolin drums ceased it became much better though. Even a constant humm would be better for demo like this imo.

Mine kept crashing. Maybe it is my old, updated Windows XP Pro. SP3 machine and ATI Radeon 4870 video card. :(

Anyways, I ran WinDbg on the demo's EXE file: http://pastie.org/4384642 ... Crashes on:
...
ModLoad: 755c0000 755ee000 C:\WINDOWS\system32\msctfime.ime
(f04.8c8): Unknown exception - code c06d007e (first chance)

It's MS Framework.

Hi Antdude : thanks for taking time to create the crashlog. TBH I'm not very experienced in solving compatibility issues between graphics cards! I believe we request a D3D11 device even if this demo probably will run on D3D10.1 (which your card supports). As for a potential .NET issue I'm a bit clueless too. I suppose I'm using the latest and greatest .NET distribution. I'm happy to grant you access to the code if you have time to play around with it.

Thank you for the comments. I agree with all of you! Sometimes it bores me to death. Some times it makes me happy when it conjures up a power-spaceship-fly-by on par with the greatest Visualice space-spikeball scenes.

What I'd like to fix:
- the camera moves through the geometry (now fixed by Datsua)
- the sun is not obscured by the spacestation
- the satellites should behave more like maintenance robots mending the station.
- the laser attack stuff could be oil/energy vents instead..
- the particles should be soft
- the particles should blend to 0 against the nearplane.
- there should be a "story"
- there should be a distortion to better match these spine tingling sounds in the music.
- some of the timing should be more absolute.
- The logo and credits could be more in style with the stations
- The credits don't show on some machines.
- There should be a 'build station' transition effect to make it less static.
- there should be some sort of environmental object to stray slightly away from the pure techno look.

...
