Tested on xp sp3 with midi. Will probably not work in emulator environment.
To troubleshhot midi please see here. Source included. Have a Happy New Year and a Merry Christmas !
as you said: won't run under dosbox; only blue screen there. runs under my xp (sp3) but has glitches (blue squares). also really(!) slow. so a video with a nice framerate would be nice.
This looks cool in screenshot but if it's what sensenstahl says then video pleaz!

Quite cool for 256 bytes.

Tried it today in dosbox and only get two random pixels in black screen?

Wow. The music is kinda neat (It has some kinda progression to it too) and it's synced to the fx. Is this the first 256b with music synced to visuals? Because I think it's a first. Still, really neato.

Hello,
1) "Blue square" glitch fixed -> Darnit!.fixed (256 bytes)
2) DOSBox compatible version added -> Darnit!.safe (259 bytes) is an alternate version for the sound and code are timely bound together hence resulting in notably differences.
You can also try it on XP SP3 too and consider it a bonus cleaner version.
3) A capture with dosbox-0.74.conf tested values (frameskip=1, aspect=false, scaler=normal2x, core=dynamic, cputype=pentium_slow, cycles=max) is available here but .mid and .avi are separated (my encoding skills stop here).
4) sensenstahl : thank you for the "Blue square" glitch remark. The rest of the glitches are "features" though. As for speed I run it on an Intel Core2 Duo 2GHz.
5) dex46... : thank you for pointing out correct version of DOSBox 0.74
6) TomoAlien : I don't know if this is the first 256b with music synced to visuals with a progression.
7) StingRay and TomoAlien : thank you for your compliments.
Also watched it in DOSBox .74 ... probably not perfect, but it's still neat.

thumb up. looks nice now like in your capture (which shows that your machine is not the fastest too ^^) keep it up! :)

Awesome. A breakbeat is cool idea in a 256b.
(The tune play in the video, didn't need the midi file)

Added today a (bad quality alas) youtube link of video captured with phone, so those without winxp or win7 can at least get an idea of the sync.
Can't figure out why dosbox safe version is still slow in mine, but the youtube video did it for me.

Is the split-screen a feature or a bug?
added on the 2013-12-14 20:34:31 by vibrator vibrator
It is a feature as self-modifying code. The alternate (safe) version doesn't split the screen.
neat
