Thanks a lot for your responses. I did not expect so many positive reactions as I am not so happy with the demo myself. Though, I understand this is a commonplace feeling in the scene after a release when the deadline comes. Anyway, the demo turned out better in regards to style and music than my first (eye-cancer) production. So, I am at least happy about the improvement. Let's see where it goes from here.

As with my last demo I will publish the annotated full source sometimes next week. :)

Cheers go to DESiRE for welcoming me in their ranks, special thanks to HellMood for the valuable input and support and to p01 for always being helpful and generally awesome.

Just wanted to see what that looks like. Seems the source is unprintable, right?
really great! hypnotizing :D

WizardOfOzz: See the eval(_) at the end of that script ? Well, open the devtool of your browser and type _
added on the 2015-03-15 00:11:02 by p01 p01
@WizardOfOzz: The source you posted is the compressed version. It has been packed using regpack. It uses a sort of run-length encoding which saves about 30% of the minified code. The demo source is stored in a string and is fairly unreadable because if this. The string is uncompressed by a tiny bit of JavaScript code next to the string and executed using an eval statement.

I added a link of the commented version of the source code. There you can explore the inner works of the ray marcher.

music sounds surprisingly good for bytebeat in an 1K .js prod

my fav so far in the compo
rulez added on the 2015-03-17 13:42:24 by juice juice
Thanks :)

About the music: I have even better bytebeat formulas in stock but they are bigger than the one I used in this prod. After I cleaned up the code (see sources link in the header) the code compresses to just 983 Bytes. Unfortunately, i only realized after deadline. So I could have used a better sounding formula.

So, you may expect even better bytebeat-sound in my next prod. Whatever and whenever it will be. ;)

BTW I use a tool I build called Lazerbeat (http://lazerbahn.com/lazerbeat.html) to make the music. The tool comes with a couple of interesting formulas that I made for a magazine article published a while back. If you're interested, check it out. I think there is a lot of headroom for bytebeat music to evolve.

The music is super cool, especially for 1k. Visuals are a bit trippy but work well enough.
