Cool smooth highres and font style!

This! No jerky low-res polygons.

I applaud the effort of trying to make a high-res high-framerate demo, but alas too much was sacrificed for that goal. Boring, uninteresting effects, even in high-res are still boring, uninteresting effects.

The demo run smoothly for the most part on my P166mmx, but was stopping dead for a second on scene transitions (loading from disk?).

It says GUS, but it uses midas, so I don't get that. I ran it with a SB16.

Also tried it on my second DOS/win98 PC with a P3 700, SB AWE64, and solid state disk. There it runs perfectly.

Nice. I've been meaning to do a high-res DOS demo (QuickBasic of course). Looks like you took advantage of bitplanes.

Nuclear, there's no disk loads except in the start.

I don't get why it would stop dead on your machine at scene transitions as all heavy initialization is done at start and usually not that much is done when effect changes. Even some backbuffer clears are amortized over several frames at end of previous effect so that there's no heavy stops. What graphics adaptor do you have? Does the demo run significantly different then when compared to the youtube video? Note that there's an intentional "pause" at start of the bouncing ball, synced with the drop in music, while the lines are drawn in.

It says GUS because that's what's it is meant to be run with & targeted for, and performance was aimed for that performance-wise. We tested with slower machine than what you have. It's possible that the sw mixing that tune takes too much power on SB.

Usually when Pouet prod is set to DOS/Gus, it means that it requires GUS and won't run with SB.

For the compo machine spec GUS is required, and also specified by infofile to be required.

If you run on a much higher powered machine, then SB is okay I guess. (Like Nuclear already reported.) For that possibility the other-than-GUS support is left there and not enforced.

Enjoyed this a lot. Some of the effects were much better than others I thought. Nice style overall though

Let it be mentioned that Deep Hyttynen from 2017 also uses high-res 60 Hz VGA mode, and a timer interrupt based ”copper” (which isn’t used in Pyo Pyo as far as I can see). IMO, hi-res and planar modes are worth more exploration.

Yzi, oh, that's very cool! Unfortunately the tech aspects of that had totally escaped my attention.

tonic: I apologize for the noise. Apparently the slowdown I experienced the other day was a fluke, because I can't reproduce it now. Ran the demo on the same computer just now, multiple times, with and without my regular TSRs, and it always runs smoothly.

That noise display style is quite pleasing compared to "traditional noise". The demo says "blue noise" at some point. Is that the technical term of this kind of noise?

awesome and smooth show, nice to see somebody doing hires with a sense of style and i really like your dithering approach :)
runs like a charm on p200mmx/128mb/trio3d/sb

@rloaderro Yes, you guessed correctly, that's the tech term for it. :)

Very cool looking noise and all effects are silky smooth on a K6 200. The music is a let down though, it sounds like it never really takes off.
