I was looking at a 'Revolutionary Design Inc.' demo only this morning, so imagine my shock at seeing your comeback! Good looking intro and that music is far from average, it still sounds fresh.
Which one was that motion? I have of course all prods with which I had some involvement in storage, but I have doubts about how well 25-30 year old floppies will work 😂 So trying to find them by other means.

Essentially a list of up to 4 pixels to draw per line, the list is "scrolled" upwards and fed with the next line from current character at the bottom (I generated the font pixel list with Python), then everything filled with blitter. The twisty/sine shiz is handled with lookup tables (also generated with Python) that remap the pixel positions in the list to what drawn on screen. :)

Ok think I get it. Each line is 4 dots that you then do a normal fill with the blitter. Or is the "up to 4 pixels" relevant - I'm thinking of a capital E that would be 2 dots in the center.
I really like this pushing of old tech with new tools thing. I'm not there yet as I'm still on sine wave tables :)

Yes, normal fill with the blitter, but as you said quite a lot of letters only need 2 dots per line, "L" for instance, but "e" will need 4 dots at the top where the loop part of the letter is. When rendering the line I used -1 to denote that no more points needed, but to achieve the scrolling every line occupies 4 bytes regardless.
