Probably the first demo with a penis that actually is good!
Some 3D models have some problems with the lighting and are too low poly.
Awsome soundtrack ;)

Please someday do a win32 port of previous Shad demos.

horribly buggy on my radeon...
objects suddenly popping in and out and it's annoyingly lagging between the parts.
so it's either technically bad or artistically unfinished.
in both cases: please do a final version.

Although the genre is not my coup of tea, it gets me by the amount of content. I love the creatures and most of the scenes. After watching it twice I think it could be even better with some tuning. I love the greeting part.
rulez added on the 2008-03-24 23:11:32 by pixtur pixtur
The first 2-3 min I didn't like the music too much and I got a "Oh no, not another 3d-flyby demo" even though the graphic was great. Then when the soundtrack changed and it all went in to a Portal process like of thing, I started to like it.
So I guess it gets a thumb up.

Great to see cocoon return with another shad demo (shad2 was my favourite demo ever). However I'd prefer it with a commercial mp3, the music just didn't pack enough punch to drive the atmosphere.
Anyhow, very good nontheless. Cheers, and keep the dark cocoon style demos coming :)

I was looking forward to that in the compo, knowing that it was going to be massive. And it was !

However, I think that the first couple of scenes were rather underproduced - the particle systems seemed to be a bit off (they looked a bit washed off). Other than that a solid demo that would have won Assembly indeed.

solid. I has a serious 'wow'-factor. The first two parts I used to play over and over, even used the soundtrack of Shad1 once in a mix during a rave party. Great atmosphere, more to my liking than the demos that ranked above it at BP08. Not because the quality of the other winners was low (it wasn't) but this one appeals more to my style in graphics as well in sound. I voted this one "RULES" and didn't gave the others any votes because they were winning anyway.

And now please tell me were you guys are going to release part IV so I can make sure I attend that party!

My brother's PC has 4GB of RAM and I didn't knew it!!!

p.s. You know something funny? Someone suggested a friend to not buy 4GB but 2GB of ram because with 4GB some old programs might say "not enough memory" and that his system has around -(minus)2GB of RAM and won't run. I guess it would happen when an app tries to read the system memory in a signed integer or something :)

Ok about the prod now. Stil a piggy. It's not like Shad 2. I still like Shad 2 (and even 1) more. I don't know why. Huge amounts of 3d models and textures, it looks good but I got bored.

I found something today, than whenever I download a demo being something like 50MBs and needing too much memory/loading, then it probably has a lot of graphical content and is the kind of demo I might get bored with. In the past 3d flybyes were impressive but now I think I am more entertained by great transitions, effects and presentation.

Each individual element of this demo is stunning - music, graphics, and especially the modelling. As a whole, it didn't really gel together. The direction was all over the place and I felt a downtempo soundtrack would have worked better.

Still, a thumb up for all the quality work that went into this. Nice to see such a big production among all the novelty releases.

Some really great quality work in here, but it ends up average for me. The 3d was great (especially in the d+b part), but a lot of it felt like a level from quake but without the atmosphere. Guess it's just not my taste at all.

Finally a demo you can show to your kids!

Anyways. Fckin cool modelling and texturing!
Metal coupled with electronic music can burn in hell though. I like the dnb parts though.

With all these machines helping out with the daily chores, you'd think living in the future would be easy.. That guy at the end is like :"where the hell did I put those socks?"

absolutely not my style, but there is lot of work on it. Few more polys would not have hurt (it's 2008) and I had to put the brightness of the screen to the maximun to see anything. As said, lot of coding and modeling work. Coders to Artists ratio = 1/7, amazing!

This demo looks like some random game content thrown together with a very unfitting soundtrack, and the "static black and white 2d overlays with no connection with the scene whatsoever" cocoon trademark all over it.

HOWEVER, when the drum'n'bass part kicks in towards the end, with some serious sync and industrial looking scenes with depth of field, I am sold.
rulez added on the 2008-03-29 14:27:35 by Duckers Duckers
Cocoon's 3th demo in a 7 months release radius after a 4 year's break/interval. This alone deserves a thumb!

This demo on it's own deserves a thumb to and should have been 1st of 2nd (can't choose between UkScene AllStars and Cocoon :)

Runs slow and skips some scenes on my PC
but what the heck! Keep up releasing demos in 2008 pleaseeeee......

rulez added on the 2008-03-29 15:15:38 by magic magic
Hmm... I don't know.

On one hand almost everything is executed brilliantly; there's a rocking soundtrack, great modelling and texturing and a still quite distinc and coherent style...

... but then again I couldn't help the feeling that it all seemed so utterly pointless to me. The usual cliched repetition of cyber-propaganda-indotrinate-o-tron-televisions, animals with machines and a bit of Starship Troopers in between doesn't cut it for me when there's no whole that's connecting everything. Which is either abesnt or too hidden for mee to see.

Props for your social engineering skills in the middle tho - showing a robot chick for a split second and then cranking up the pace of the soundtrack so that everyone at the party was cheering at a simple tunnel flight was nice. :)

In the end, i'll give it a pigface in the hope that it might grow on me. Let's see.

What waffle said. I liked the bits of character animation and modeling. Too bad it's all presented in a boring and incoherent Quake level flyby package, even with the standard ugly FPS colors. Really far from being my cup of tea.

large amount of work, clearly, but what's the point? it's a mountain of clichés, and not in the positive sense... I don't find these "let's play these 3ds files the graphicians gave me" type demos interesting anymore. Come on, be more creative, or make cg films instead (though those would need more coherent storyline :)

ok, actually I somewhat liked one part, near the end. but that's still a piggy.

Great efforts in this demo, but also another proof that current 3d modelling/animation in demos is far from the games standard these days (IMO).

Overall, the package works perfectly, mostly thanks to the great scenes and the sickeningly stunning music.

But regardless of how great this demo is, IMO it's lame of Tenshu and Nytrik to thumb their own demo so shamelessly.

But overall big props to Cocoon for a rockin' demo.

Honestly, while the amount of work put into it is incredible, 3d flybys are getting extremely boring IMHO plus the whole thing was a bit inconsistent. It still deserves a thumb in my book for the music and the modelling skills + obviously for the work involved (yes, I do value that. :)

the same that untel said. this really just feels like a gameengine-showoff. the first part looks like someone taped while they playing and added some random music!

BUT then part 2 comes with kickass music and a bit more "not gamish" visuals. Would be instant rule if it was the fact that I really really hate part 1.
