I like the athmosphere here - the "coldness" is nicely captured. I assume the noise is representing the engine of a plane.

the visuals are amazing!

About the sound: when I launch the .html gives an helicopter feeling which is quite good, while it was quite bland on the stream (see http://archive.assembly.org/2013/1k-intro/andes-by-p01-ribbon).

I don't know what was intended, but it works quite well if you imagine you are in an helicopter :).

Thank you.
It was a really nice compo, and I'm glad I managed to pull that out in just 2 weeks worth of short evenings.

maytz: Yes, Himalaya was/is amazing! However it was not the inspiration for ANDES. Neither was Elevated if anyone wonders. I recalled Himalaya, a little late in production and was worried about the similitudes. But upon watching both intros I fell ANDES had enough merits on its own to not scrap the project altogether. Sure it has less features. A lot less actually. However I believe the camera, design and color treatment bring something to the table.

Beside it's been 5 years since Himalaya, and both Himalaya and ANDES use a very different set of technologies. If TBC, or anybody find an offense there. I'm sorry, it was not my intention to rip off HIMALAYA. If anything, the name, ANDES is an homage to Himalaya.

Hope people will appreciate ANDES on its own merits.

There have been landscapes even before those mentioned here. On it's own this was awesome!
Ofcourse with it being such a nice 1k, I was hoping for a climax but I understand that was a bit too much to ask. Great work!

missing something in the end, or melodies to be a real elevated clone :p still, great stuff for 1k

Online versions in 4:3, 16:9 and 16:10

psenough: Thanks for the advice! It's a freaking cool compliment to hear people thought about Elevated while watching ANDES, even if it was never my intention to do a remake, or demake, of Elevated in 1k.

perfectly fine explanation, and I do in fact like this one better :) has less impact on technical merits but it's certainly better designwise.

Unpacked version added to the archive and online, in case your browser doesn't like the bootstrapped versions.

^_______^ thanks for the comments.

Packed version works fine now but the whole intro is kinda slow. Anyways, thumb up.

Very well executed Andes and the noise wind soundscape fits well int those.

p01: despite the coldness of the Andes it warms me up a lot remembering sitting next to you at asm'06 and now seeing that we're both still there and active.

Sounds like a case of requestAnimationFrame missing.

Are you using Opera 12 with HW acceleration enabled ? AFAIK that's the only browser with some level of support of webGL but no requestAnimationFrame.

If that's the case, you can try the unpacked version and replace requestAnimationFrame(m) by setTimeout(m,16). You might want to fiddle with the 16 depending on your GPU.

Hope that helps,
Either way, thanks for reporting the problem with a piggy on top of that.
added on the 2013-08-10 22:21:28 by p01 p01
looks more like a problem with no "window." in front of it... anyway, setTimeout worked well on both FF and Opera
