finally a production we're happy with. if scene.org is full or slow, you can get it from here: http://ayumi.psychoproject.net/~excess/productions/e_amoeba.zip - hope you like it! :)

groovy track backing up colourful gfx. pixeled pornstars. entertaining.
rulez added on the 2002-05-13 00:58:09 by funktion funktion
This is good, but the 2D overlays almost killed it for me. I personally feel they stay on screen too long and do very little other than invert colours.

Looks very polished and runs nice on my below average machine :)

Keep rocking excess!
Stylish, and polished. Upbeat soundtrack included (scratch-o-matic).
Great.

weird chicks, cheesy 3d, scratch'n'heavy soundtrack - all components of a delightful no-brainer are in place.. 8)

rulez added on the 2002-05-13 22:17:28 by neon neon
well... the design is totally sucky ofcourse. but guess what, it wasn't pretentious and it moved along swiftly with some nice effects that did not just consist of additive planes.

(and this positive review has nothing to do with my bald-women-fetish, which I don't have, I hasten to add)
rulez added on the 2002-05-13 22:41:21 by sagacity sagacity
mmm.. bald women...
Fair demo. PHAT SOUNDTRACK! :)

No sense at all, but fresh and festive. Good design/colors too. Try not putting 2D overlays gfxes just because everybody does ;)
Nice camera synchs, groovy music.
rulez added on the 2002-05-16 13:18:14 by willbe willbe
hm i must say that in retrospect i found the effects a bit too cheesy and sometimes spoiled by artifacts

Really fun demo that serves no real purpose.
rulez added on the 2002-05-17 01:02:06 by BloodyL BloodyL
Quite traditional demo scene design (which is always a pleasure to see) with some neat looking effects and graphics, and a funky oldskool soundtrack.

rulez added on the 2002-05-17 03:17:46 by Wade^Hjb Wade^Hjb
The Graphics is nice, and so is the sync you guys really deserved the 1st place!
added on the 2002-05-31 15:29:01 by stealth stealth
traditional demo scene design? For me this could also be a demo frim Wired98. Sorry. It´s ok, but many Demos are OK. for me nothing new. I watch it once. That was it. Ok but also boring.

Bring back Plasma and Tunnels? No thanks.
added on the 2002-05-31 16:17:56 by diver diver
I like the graphics... A LOT. The hairstyle of that girl sticking her tongue out, brings some flashback from some Haplo's classics. The baldie however looks like a cardboard cut-out. There are some rectilinear cuts in her head. Ow! And the demo ain't bad, it's nice to see.

graphic music effects all is very goog.....very good and speedy demo...respect

the final version is done now. it's faster, more compatible and the design is better. get it here http://ayumi.psychoproject.net/~excess/productions/e_amoeba-final.zip if you want it. :)
added on the 2002-06-14 22:17:33 by gloom gloom
Or, of course, you could try http://www.scene.org/file.php?file=/parties/2002/underscore02/demo/e_amoeba-final.zip for a high-bandwidth mirror near you. :-)

added on the 2002-06-15 02:19:55 by Crest Crest
..however, the real treat of the final version was the readme.txt, which was truly brilliant :) great fun reviving the _02 memories again! this might possibly also be a world record in ()-remarks in a readme :) (regarding the flawless language in the text, I guess Sesse wrote it. kudos!)
..and, oh yeah:
I also like the demo :)
rulez added on the 2002-06-16 03:46:11 by lug00ber lug00ber
The 'final' crashes right on the start, while the party version worked just fine on my current setup (k2/win98/tnt). :/
added on the 2002-06-16 10:46:05 by tomaes tomaes
tnt1 or tnt2? The demo is known to work on tnt2, but tnt1 has been crashing all the way. Let me know if it helps running it with command line parameters ("-640x480 -32 -z24", for instance) :-)
added on the 2002-06-16 12:28:23 by Sesse Sesse
Yes, TNT1 (16mb/agp). It crashes right after the start, no matter what command line parameter I use. It doesn't switch to fullscreen video, just the "somethings wrong at 0167:004252e4" box. :)
As said, no probs with the party version...
added on the 2002-06-16 13:50:15 by tomaes tomaes
Very nice! Now this one even an "oldskool" fan like myself can appreciate. :) Great music, stylish graphics and nice effects. More!
rulez added on the 2002-06-16 18:56:54 by break break
Tomaes: Really weird, but sorry, can't really help when it's an ultra-old card I don't have access to somewhere :-) I wasn't even aware the the partyversion was working on TNT1, others have told me otherwise -- thus it was more or less given up all the way :-) (The final version works on Voodoo1 :-P)
added on the 2002-06-16 19:20:58 by Sesse Sesse
this is quite entertaining, mainly because of the good soundtrack. graphical design and textures are a bit ugly and objects are too simple but it's a nice demo anyway
rulez added on the 2002-06-17 12:03:40 by raymon raymon
Apparently it bugged on my computer... During the first minute or so of music there was nothing on the screen and I only saw one effect after that, none of those fancy-looking pictures on the screenshot. :-P

Those fortunate enough to run Debian (only unstable for now, hopefully quite soon reaching testing and of course next version of stable, ie. Debian 3.1/sarge) can now run:

apt-get install amoeba
amoeba

No more hassle, final version and bugfixes included. ;-)

Nice code, great graphics and a powerfull soundtrack.

I watched the Linux version, which was frameskipping on a P4/2400 with a TNT2, but that's probably my system. Also, Sesse, keep in mind that when /dev/dsp is busy, it's better to report it to the user instead of stopping with a cryptic 'Unhandled exception: Error in .obj data' message :-)

And of course, kudos for releasing the code and putting this in the debian unstable tree :-)
rulez added on the 2004-03-01 23:41:29 by moT moT

Neat stuff! Graphics is a little bit course at times, but makes it up in personality. Great tune, too... I wonder if they got the idea of the zooming stars behind the scary Susan Powter head from my old Operation 3DFX demo entry.

the whole demo is refreshing and uplifting. more demos like that please.
however, not really convinced by the music. good but not really "scenish" and too much "clichés" in it. IMHO

Some cool fx, pretty old school, it reminds me of DOS demos where we used images to fill in the blanks :). I'm not really into the hiphop music style but some drum & bass rythms are pretty cool. Nice demo, found it listening to Nectarine radio :D
