Demoscene is dead, when the last active "scener" will be inactive, not earlier.

since this thread has passed on to the great sea of bullshit a long time ago, i'd just like to say that c14 is a great demo. refreshing and nice. funny too. :)

And I would like to mention that c14 should sink in the ocean and never leave a trace, just for kicks.

is you trippin?

c14's only fault is it is so damn short. No wannabe-intelligent-art-of-perception-design bullshit.
just a well put together production, that actually looks pretty damn good at 6403x480 4xAA (well looks good in any resolution above that aswell but above 1024* my sys just wont cope with the AA hehe :])

and since this doenst really seem to have anything to do with the demo in the first place i wanna add a small story.

i Remember going to this little piehole called herning in 93 for a computer event. Carrying with me my trusty amiga1200 with a massive 6 megs of ram.....*moment of silence*
As day one passed i started to walk about in the hall area and sniff up some good demos, and i was stunned, no amazed to see that people was making halfpipe dot tunnels, i mean...damn! someone was even making geraud shading that was amazing. then i talked to this german guy (hello freindly guy :) )and he had made a tunnel with textures on it, i couldnt belive it, why didnt i see cool shit like that in the games i played? as the scene developed i kept this oppinion untill i left.
Well when i rejoined (if there exist a such term in the life of a "scener" ) i now feel its the other way around.
the games have surpassed most of the demos in looks, and that is a bloody shame, demos to me have always been about pushing the hardware to the limit. but with the ever evolving pc, you never really get to know the hardware as well as you did with i.e C64 and amiga. because they WERE the only alternative to expensive mac's(mind you pc graphics were called vga at best at the time and therefore pc was never in the picture).

I am a happy geforce2 owner and i know after seing return to castle wolfenstein, impressive as it is, that it is way capable of making things way beyond what that game gives me, because in the process of the game a lot of resources goes into handling physics, A.U (artificial unintelligence) and the likes, leaving the graphics card with the graphics handling.

Demos doesnt have to cope with all that crap, so why dont the scene go back into its posstion as frontrunners of graphic capabilities, or are we going to leave that to madonion? (big up guys, the latest 2 3dmarks rocked seriously in visuals, though getting so low framerates on a GF2 seem unfair );)

would part cpu part gpu rendering be impossible. the visual capabilities of the cpu are endless its all a matter of speed, and cpu's are getting damn fast. Im about to get a tualatin p3 and with my gf2 i reckon the 2 of them could do some pretty amazing stuff, that i am yet to see.

and 3d object makers should stop being lazy. if you use 3d graphics, at least make it interresting because standart 3dmax objects with a few edits just dont cut it as cutting edge visuals.

if you are going to use metaballs, why not make it moer interresting by letting them interact with the sides of the sphere or cube they are located in. or let them intearct with a surounding 3d world. it would take more time agreed, but it would be that much more slick, becuase metaballs on their own are cool the first couple of times you see it, then they get to you as a bad habbit as goes with most standart "scene objects" ...anyone remember a certain duck???

more crap for a crap thread....lataz

push the limits of imagination, not hardware

Why not both?

I agree about the PC being to evolving really as a Demo platform, one real reason being, we canstill play C64 & Speccy demos easily using emulators, but old PC ones(even though we are using pcs) no chance. The Game Boy Advance looks like the next big Demo platform BECAUSE of its built in unchanging limitations. The problem with PDs is that by the time your pushing the bounderies, the bounderies are pushed back, it's less impressive to see anything really on a platform with no real limits. I've seen PC, Spec, GBA & C64 demos, mostly speccy ones make me more impressed that some of the (admittedly quite stunning) recent pc ones because it's less expected.

anyone else noticed the spelling error in the title of the thread ?

it's COULOIR 14 not COLOUR 14

"couloir" is the french for "corridor"
