The future of pouët.net

category: general [glöplog]
oh almost forgot:
whatever way it's gonna be - browser, webservice, frontend - the first thing to do is *definitely* ditching the glop system.

Removing the image tag from threads and assigning a couple of moderator roles should be more than enough.
With all the work you people are suggesting, chances are he's gonna get sick of it all again and stop updating it.

yes ditching the glöp system is of utmost importance. (and optimus, the front end idea would be in addition to the site, not a replacement)

sprocket, read his first post :)

(plus i like the front end idea because it offloads the work to "us" ... a bit like a mail client, we'd be able to shape the features it has)

Frontends are for MAME. Pouët.net is a website.
yes, moderation.

knos: Yes I know, but I just thought people were starting to ask for a little too much. =)

I mean, it's working great today, just needs some small modifications, not a big frontend exe or anything.. :-D

cool troll =>

of COURSE I'll only stick with XHTML/CSS, no bullshit, and anyway I suck at .net.

About the frontend ideas, when I started pouet, Iplanned to code a win32 pouet client talking to pouet, it was a mistake.

It's way better to build some XNFO/XML/CSV/SQL/WHATEVER data export, with a nice portable and stable format, and you guys use it like you want. First this will only be available as a readonly resource ofcourse, but it might not be impossible to implement some interaction directly with those datas (not only GET, but also PUT/POST)

And yes, gay porn on pouet is cool...

Important message: ANALOGUE FOR PRESIDENT

Other than that, kill those damn glöps, true, true

But why? Glops aren't doing anything bad to pouet, except from existing, unlike image links and other stuff!

kill those damn glöps

As if that would improve anything. The people who add fake-stuff don't do it for the glöps anyway.

the fake stuff, as you call it, might never have happened if people didn't start adding cracktros to get a higher glöp number.

an ignore feature ? you're part of the scene and there might be some people you don't like in it, accept it.
Moreover, how could you ever change your mind on someone, if you never get to know him ?

Leia: How can you say that cracktros are fake releases? That's insane!

Some cracktros are more interesting to me than 80% of the intros/demos released. Different people have different opinions..

What we don't need, are the few fake releases which really aren't scene related at all.

sprocket: read my words again will you?

I never said cracktros were fake releases

(I said the fake releases might have been showning up because someone got too annoyed by the amount of cracktros suddenly added. Not that I have proof, but it seems likely)

"all your glöps are belong to us"(tm)

"And yes, gay porn on pouet is cool..."

If that's the case Analogue, then the only change that is needed is the line stating this site as a "demoscene resource".

The problem is that pouet is such a big thing by now that it became hip to add fake-stuff(tm) here in order to get attention. Things which noone would dare to release at a party etc. And no, I don't believe that cracktros are the root of all evil.

Leia: Sorry, I am such a lam0r.. Won't happen again. =)

tomaes: no, the glöps are ;)

AFAIK there is a cracktro category, you should bear with that =) And there is also a Flash category, I don't like it, but it's there.

Now there are 2 choices:
- We moderate the prods before they became publicaly available
- We don't moderate and you report the fake prods

Sometimes I randomly find some fake prods (like commercial demos) and I delete them, but there are usually some comments shitting on it, while I never received any mail asking me to delete the prod.

You can comment, that's kind of fun, but don't forget to mail me, I can't be aware of all the SQL activity here =)

Wow, happy to see you back, man :)

Analogue:
If you've got some moderators visiting the page here on an regular basis you'll surely minimize those fakes as well. As the mods will see those prods - as every normal scener here - on a daily basis as well and can just delete them right away then, too...!

Will save you many emails you would receive and keep your inbox emptier then as well to just recieve the important requests concerning add-ons and improvements to your site here which only you can realise then anyways! ;-)

Bye,
Weasel

Referring back to stil's comment about the ignore function, i beg to differ.. There are some people who only bring noise and produce almost no signal to my ear. If i am susceptible to change my mind about them, it's surely not on pouët that i will do it. But at a party surely.

analogue:

- the 1st option sucks. It delays everything and the users depend on the activity of the staff
- the 2nd option is the way to go. The 'reporting' process can be easily automated [with a request form, I've suggested this several times].
