THE solution for our Optimus problem

category: general [glöplog]
many ppl complain about our dear friend Optimus and his rantering on our beloved pouet.net ... the irritationlevel becomes more and more intense and therefore the admosphere is kinda fuxx0red.

I have been thinking about this matter and i came to a perfect solution and a bloody simple one as well!

All we need is a checkbox in our accounts with the option 'Do you want to have Optimus enabled?' If so, all messages written by Optimus will be shown, if not, an easy filter removes all his messages during the generation of the pages.

C&C please!

BB Image ..you're the guy that get's to sit in the corner with a funny hat on, in you're calss. Arent you?

No the easy solution would be to ignore the motherfcukers you dont like. thats the easy solution.

Why not make a user list, and a production list, so you can filter all users, and or certain groups?

Im sorry maali, but this is fcuking bullshit. Optimus seem very excited about the demosene, peace be with that. It is a good thing to have something you're excited about. Give it a rest ya'll. =/

In a word: no.

I'd cry without Optimus and his onethousandliners. Life just wouldn't be the same.
Why does everyone give Optimus so much shit? He writes a lot and goes off the point and stuff but if you check the right side of your browser you will see a slider. You can use it to skip past messages you don't want to read!!! It's crazy but trust me it works!

I wish we all had the optimus spirit but I don't think Pouet has the hard drive space for more than one Optimus. ;)

first people claimed the guy was a script, now there's advocacy for a script to delete the script. wrippitiwrap, we go back.

anyway, my vote goes to a script that will delete all optimus-RELATED postings.

I'd like to see a crapfilter like slashdot has, but allowing a ranking by user instead. You could give joeblow a 2, captaindemo a 4, spamhead a 1 etc. (the default would be the highest, naturally), then set your crapfilter to 1-5 to eliminate everything posted by users below that level. Will add a lot (size and loading time) to the database, no doubt. And the censorship/free speech argument is pointless, because you don't have to use it.

I just pray optimus starts up a livejournal soon. That should take some time away from him posting here. :)

blah, now guys, stop bashing optimus, there are really worse things/people to worry about.

and in exchange, optimus, stop spreading your private life all over pouet. you know, i'm a patient fellow, but there's a moment when the limit is reached, and it's getting nearer and nearer.

Have some patience. Everyday that passes, I am wondering how lame my position in the demoscene is. I have considered very seriously, to forget the scene and not visit pouet for a long period. The matter is that I don't really know when this will happen though. Then, you might miss me a lot. And I don't know if I will ever come back..

Sometimes I do hate the scene. Perhaps because my position is very trivial, I have a responsibility for that too. Perhaps I do like that I am known even as a poor person and this keeps me writting, perhaps I am reactive that you consider my attitude pathetic because it seems so in the eyes of our society, and thus keeping more reactivelly in the same mentality, like a strange psychic food for me. But I somehow feel strange about that. I will have 2 go..

The worst thing is that the passion of revenge has struck my mind, I don't want to leave as a lamer,. or I want to leave and come back surprisingly to show to everything of something. I can't clear that from my mind. It has to come. As everything that I passed in my life was my destiny, a way to learn. I might have learned few things, still don't know how lame I am really am and that's why this game will continue for a long time, perhaps even forever. However, you might or might not see me sooner or later in pouet and the scene, the fight will continue inside my mind.

I'll cast myself away from pouet and the scene for a while, be patient. Some will not have to bare with my posts, others might miss the fun. Perhaps even after Erasmus, because I for once thought that the soruce of my worries is that I am still leaving with my parents and that is unbearable. The only way now, is to finish my university fast and go away. That's why without scene, I'll only take care of that. That's why I was thinking to quit when I come back from Erasmus. I may come back later or never. Just be patient. I am patient too. Can't wait the day to leave everything I once loved and now hate :(

I second dip, there are alot more annoying people here. apart from that I never thought optimus was annoying.
so I'd suggest, that optimus shouldn't listen to some pseudo-elite people who think that they're something like the rulers around.
good night. erm. morning. whatever.

If optimus didn't reply to these pointless threads, there would be more pro/anti-optimus discussion than optimus posts i think :)

Optimus: don't get so stressed over things, and don't take the scene too seriously either. The scene is not not the point of your life, it's just a part of it... you can join it or leave it whenever you want. And is your position in the scene really so lame? Ok, perhaps you post a bit too much about your life in here ;) But perhaps that helps you sometimes to see things more clearly. And you have certainly generated extra interest in the scene, plus made some demos too. Look at how many people come here critising demos and other sceners and never produce anything... I've never made or contributed anything for eg. (although I'm trying to be more active now :)

Try to find the things in the scene you like, you can leave the rest and ignore it. A few years later, and you'll have finished your university, got a job + own house, you can settle down + do what you want, and you'll wonder why you got so stressed out before =) And if you're smart, you'll think it funny not embarassing ;)

Personally, I use the ALOPS system (Automatic Large Optimus Post Skipping) and it works quite well. I hate the user/Optimus filtering idea, it's going to create more problems instead of solving them.

Not to mention that Optimus has managed to calm down recently and post alot less. Let's hope that he keeps it that way.
added on the 2003-09-03 11:53:09 by moT moT
damn, lotsa ppl took this quite serious...

anyway, i also apply the ALOPS quite often :)

maali : well the ranting about Optimus large posts is a so unoriginal topic ... it was simply not fun

Yeah, surely it'd be a solution. However, without much style.
added on the 2003-09-03 13:15:49 by tomcat tomcat
Make a demo about that. We need style :)

'The Optimus Solution' sounds like a demo anyway. And I'm interested to hear of some stylish solutions to 'the problem'.

Perhaps hiring a team of ninjas to hunt down optimus, then force him to 'get a life' for the next year? No, it needs a car chase somewhere.
added on the 2003-09-03 13:41:08 by psonice psonice
psonice: for best results the team of ninjas has to consist of the most hardcore finnish, norwegian and polish partyanimals... Equipped with a horrible amount booze, a barbeque and some meat, ofcourse.

And yes, the car chase is a good idea...

I didn't know finland, norway and poland export ninjas now? Gone are the good oldschool teetotal vegetarian polite japanese ninjas, in come the drunk, swearing, partying ninjas from the edges of europe. And let's face it, they'll be crap at stealth, shuriken throwing and car chases...

Still, they'll probably make some good demos.

Optimus: think about this. If Pouet is the most famous scene site of today and you are the most famous user of Pouet, then you must be the most famous scener of today!! :)

Ultimate Gas: Yes,. I surprisingly am and that's the strangest thing I have ever encountered in my life. It's driving mad! I have wondered about it many times ago. Half part of it keeps me alive. Do you know that you or Shane the Wolf are quite famous too? And not because of our scene work yet! :)
