"Real 3D" on ECS Amigas possible?

category: general [glöplog]
Could you name some more A500 ECS demos with newschool effects like 3d>=gouraud shading, static texture effects (tunnels, floor, etc), or other mid/newschool effects you wouldn't see back in the past except in AGA? I already didn't knew about the TEK demos and they seem interesting.

@j-ar 40x30 seems rather low, but better than nothing.

I'd really like to see such stuff on the AMIGa:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpOwp5TzMJE
The shown resolution is at 64x56 where the rotating objects are shown.
The "Voxel" Space is at approx. 80x60 resolution.... not to forget that you see approx. 35 colours on screen. The "Rampage" Demo is very close. But I can't believe the AMIGA cannot do it better (Blitter + 32 Bit Commands etc.) . I wonder if such high achieved people exist at the AMIGA Scene who can put the last bit out of an ECS machine.

@graham, oh yeah thats right. I just remembered that it needed an accelereated amiga to run.

Just saw the "Electrons at Work" demo. I must say this is the right direction :-)
Seems to be the highest quality then, for now?

On top of my head, here's a list of prods featuring:

Voxel landscapes:

Voxel-ish world:

Someone didn't quite understand the topic :] (Also kudos for the self promotion)

Although the title of this thread suggest something else or broader, people are talking voxels here.

WRT self promo, they feature voxel effects and are on limited platforms so I thought it was a propos.

I guess we where talking about voxels in Amiga ECS only, nevetheless these examples are very nice too :)

if it can be done on STe/f, it can be done on ECS.

@p01 : People say the AMIGA OCS/ECS suffers by the usage of bitplanes, for creating fast 3D. Indeed the AMIGA "alone" throttles the CPU speed when the Coper is active. So at least some fast memory has to be in there for having anything faster.

Don't ever forget mars.exe ;)

emkay: Mind you, the STe/f also work in bitplanes. And for better or worse they are interleaved.

j-ar: Some nice prods but there are no voxels in these prods. It's all regular 3D + LUT tricks + star wars scroller-ish effects. No voxel landscape or voxel world.

emkay didn't restrict to voxels in his first post or am i mistaken?

For Chunky2Planar routines the interleaved bitplanes of the ST are an advantage, since two bitplanes can be written with one MOVE.L.

yeah, the MOVEP(!) solution on ST is very nice. But sp/contraz has developed some very promising new routines for A500. Unfortunately he couldn't finish his demo for bp this year :(
see: here and here.

Converting st-bitplanes to amiga-bitplanes shouldn't take that many cycles for the blitter, and ceartainly not if you settle for a smaller area of the screen to be converted. And there are probably smarter ways to make virtual screen formats that are easily converted to proper bitplanes.

for real fullscreen 3d without huge "pixel" you can not have textures.
