before i was in the dx beta program, i never bothered to check out things like these on a regular basis. if this topic would've appeared, i prolly would have thought "oh, handy" and downloaded the update. this goes for a lot of people. besides, who cares?

SO I'D SUGGEST USELESS PISSHEADS LIKE _ AND UNSEEN SHUT THE FUCK UP. AND YOU TOO SHIFTER, MOTHERFUCKER ;)

I have to completely second plek. This announcement was far more useful than most of the "new crap by xxx" items in the news list :)

Tho, who cares. D3DX and .NET are for lamers anyway. Really.

kb: D3DX now includes spherical harmonic lighting stuff which is pretty high-end... 'course most lamers won't know WTF it is about when they read the function descs, because you have to go read some papers to make use of it :)

SH lighting isn't high-end, it's just new. :)

And unseen should be quiet.

I didn't mean high end in terms of card power necessary, but high end in terms of brain power :-). Lots of things are new ideas that work on old hardware and I would call them high end.

time to upgrade my brain. I believe 'beer' can do that.

Hey kb what is wrong with D3DX? I can see how using the skinned mesh class in lame, but the vector and texture classes are really helpful!

yes, d3dx is the lamest there is, and thats because it makes you lazy because you dont have to write all kinds of handy useful code in 100% asm, which ofcourse is the right thing for every self-respecting democoder out there to do!

oh and pete, there are many handy nifty things i've found in d3dx, but the basic math stuff isnt one of them :) unless you don't care about control or speed ofcourse (as goes for datapreprocessing for example, to a certain extend).

spherical harmonics lighting made me go 'hm, we didnt we do this before?' :)

Yes, that's true. I am a major lamer and the next Nasty Bugs productions will be coded with OpenGL :)

Yeh I think you summed me up quite nicely there, Plek :)

Although, I don't know any ASM, and I've only scratched the surface of D3D, so I guess I have an excuse.
