If you don't want to use it, don't use it. It's that simple.
nothing at all, but because it's OPEN SOURCE!!!!1, all the world's linux nerds (and a duck) do their marketing for them.

"firefox download day", what the fuck? i'd laugh at anyone suggesting such a farce and now it turns out it actually works

rob, it's not. too many morons stop testing their sites on anything other than FF under the pretence that i "should get it anyway". there's this whole sense of self-righteousness in the firefox crowd, even though (at least in nerd-land, where FF has by far the largest market share) when IE did the same a few years back, they were all booing and making bill gates mockups. i find it quite offensive, really.

skrebbel, if you had to spends days just to get a website working under all of IE 5.5, IE6 and IE7 at the same time, you would probably think differently ;-)

Yeah, exactly. I will be the last to preach about software, but I think it really is a nice browser, especially when developing, with firebug, etc. But obviously everybody who ignores IE during development is a moron :)
I know it's not about standards as it's possible to do pages that check on the w3 validator that only work on one of the browsers.

Joghurt: after some experience knowing what works and what doesn't you do it a lot faster. I've only did small crappy pages, but I always test them on IE and Opera... and sometimes even Firefox.

I've almost never heard of anyone saying people should get Firefox to view their pages. On the other hand, I've seen tons of web pages that only worked on IE, thankfully things have changed now that Firefox etc. cannot be ignored anymore if you are doing something serious.

joghurt, did it aplenty - i doubt you tried more than twice. it helps if you start out with a standards-compliant browser, btw. often ff is the problem then, instead of ie. not always, but often.

however, my whole point is that "ff is better" is not a valid reason for assuming everybody does or will ever have that browser. even assuming that ff is really is the creme de la creme, it still it just one of many - and the open source lunatics seem to think that it's ok to push it down peoples' throats. which is what many companies do, too, but you'd expect a more open minded standpoint from the crowd that thinks they know it all.

note that i'm talking quite specifically about places dominated by computer geeks, btw. some fuckups aside (hi ns.nl), most other site builders do seem to acknowledge that there's different kinds of people with different kinds of needs.

slux: you've not been on some of Google's site have you ? these guys can't code a front end properly. Oh and they use proprietary FireFox DOM APIs. That's just crazy for such a big company.

skrebbel: but, but every schmuk can make an extension for FireFox ... it's teh great.

you sure it wasn't converting the mails to he new format and you killed the process ? The conversion can last several minutes or even hours with hundreds of thousands of mails ( which is fairly easy to reach ).
