Demo Kiosk project for NVScene

category: general [glöplog]
Because of the nature of NVScene, with the likely-hood of lots of non-sceners visiting the party place, I thought it might be a great idea to setup some sort of demo-viewing Kiosk for non-sceners to see some demos.

The menu system for it is about done, just I've run out of demos to put on it.

What I need is about 25 to 50 demos to capture in 720p [1280x720 @ 60fps] to add to the Kiosk. [Capuring them at 7500-10000 kbit on two-pass h.264, high-as-hell quality]

Currently, I have done:

1. Lifeforce
2. Just one Wish
3. Shad 3
4. Media Error
5. Track One
6. 1995
7. Instant Zen
8. Chaos Theory

And on the todo list:
9. Debris
10. Inflorescence
11. Size Antimatters

So give me some more ideas on what to add.

Just make sure:
- The demo can be captured at 1280x720 [or it won't look like crap if it's cropped down to that].
- The non-sceners seeing it won't go 'WTF?' immediately when viewing it.

And if you'd like to capture one yourself, feel free to. Once again, 1280x720, 60 fps, 7500-10000 kbit two-pass h.264.
[Yes, two-pass. Means you have to dump the raw video or to a lossless codec, then pass it through a h.264 encoder. Yes I actually take the time to do this.]
If you need a place to dump the capture, just let me know.

So, toss me some more demos. ;) I'll get them in.

Traction - Fiat Homo (for minimalistic art, yet a graspable theme)
Exceed - Heaven7 (still the bestest ambient 64k ever :)

does this imply that older, lowres demos, are a no-go by definition?

and other than that, i actually think you *need* at least one "WTF?"-demo in there. i'm not sure what you plan to do exactly, but if you're doing a menu and stuff then that means that people can pick, by screenshot or title or something no? a bit like dvd menus or sth? in that case, for instance kolonija could very well fit in, imho. there's a stop/back button i presume, and people who *do* like the WTF-effect will actually remember those prods most.

Agreed. Deities should fill that spot. It's modern, creepy and dashing at the same time. :)

If you can afford to piss them of, show 'ultimatum to the world' ;)

i would show also some 2000ish ones perfect for 'mass demo awareness' :

This Is by Orion

Amour by Orion

Glon 243 by Cocoon

just a touch of funk by Digital Murder : despise its outdated 3D by current standards the demo got the powah!

(yes all those demos happen to be accidentally french :p)

VIP 2 by Popsy Team would perfectly complete that list, of course :>

You also want some non-mainstream stuff, because there is a certain group of people who will dig that a lot more than the usual compowinners. My recommendations could be for example some Kosmoplovci or Satori, or perhaps some of the freakier mfx things.

There's not much going for the demoscene nowadays, except the "WTF?!"-component.

Fine fine, remove the no 'wtf' stuff from my list, and add 'No crap' in it's place. ;P

Keep the suggestions coming.

Charming & athmospheric ones:

. Halcyon - H-Plus
. Fudge - Pager 11
. Pulse - 73 Million Seconds
. SQNY - Chromosphere

Then maybe some info regarding the group/party's nationality?

phoenix - From what I understand, I'm making the kiosk software, and they are going to provide the hardware. But of course, this topic was the only mention of it, so I'm not entirely sure if they changed their plans.

broderick - NVscene is a party hosted by NVidia during their big NVision event. It'll be in the US and quite a few non-NA sceners are coming. The kiosk focus is for those visiting the party place from the rest of the NVision convention.
