This might be a good idea to open a blogger account in order to expose this distinctive point of view.
Doing it ala navis.
+ myspace: thx for the add. Still a good way for musicians to post some tracks of them that people can finally listen and even sometimes (less nowadays) become new adorers of someone trying to put up something good.
+ twitter: "HO HELLO IVE DONE THAT", a good way to post your latest productions, snippets to people who care about what you do.
+ facebook: "keep in touch with friends". Yes, actually, when you have a lot of friends who moved to an other city... its quite cool. Or when you moved to a city with no link to your old friends actually... or when you want to keep in touch with demoscene dudes you meet few times a decade.
In all ways you can find pros and cons.

There must be some good examples of networking site's resources put into good use. But damn it how much collective attention capacity does the world have for all those terrabytes of rubbish that people still feel are important to publish every day. And by rubbish I don't mean their latest track or the communication with the lost ones, but rather all the pokes, the "my favourite comedy is", the "I was scratching my balls and thought of something irrelevant to twit". The world is crying, tears rolling "look, I'm here too, I'm part of the present". Which is fair enough I suppose, you can't do anything but empathise... I may get the wrong end of the stick here ofcourse, it's all a personal opinion.
Speaking of which, for some reason I'm not very surprised that optimus is not on facebook or twitter. Then again he has pouet..

Navis: i so agree... but is that so bad ? old traditional medias were full of worthless words and hot air, the difference was that some elites and officials were responsible of collecting and triggering them. Now it's up to everybody! a part of media power has been transferred to the masses, and this is a democratic revolution, nothing less!
I agree with the original poster, I myself hate all the web 2.0 crapnesses around, including but not limited to assbook, titter and myass.

That's actually a nice post and I have to agree with wb. Which might be surprising for my case because people think of me as an attention whore and I may be (oops, I did it again :) but for some reasons I am so indifferent of the trendy social network sites.
So indifferent I am that I may have forgotten my passwords for some of them and I don't even remember if I once joined twitter or some of the other less known because someone asked me and I totally forgot I have an account there.
Recently I went to facebook (after trying to remember my password because I had three months to login) just to add some greek sceners. From that time, everyone was sending me some stupid games about buying or selling your friends or to virtually buy something from a kiosk for your friend or join the group of people who hate when people stay in left in the moving stairs, to which I sometimes responded but didn't felt I have time to waste on that.
There is a panel where you write what you did today. Michael has gone for beers with his friend, michael is dancing the sirtaki, michael is taking a crap. It's just personal taste, I don't get the meaning to write something so trivial. Ok, I decided to write some news there only about releasing a new demo or anything, because a lot of those people never check pouet (except only on the two biggest parties in the year) and they later tell me "I didn't knew you made a new demo!". So, now that all greek scene is there, they will know when it's done :)
Maybe it's also the time. Ok, I spend enough on Pouet. Maybe I am already hooked in Pouet and my blogs, so I don't feel I have the time for even more. Also, those sites confuse me. I need a lot of hours to see how everything works in there and then I'll be hooked in some ritual of writting what I did, playing the stupid games, etc. I do not want!
It's also a matter of taste. There are groups about demoscene and coding and other stuff in facebook but there is not much stuff in them. It's like someone said "there is no group about this, let's do it" but it's not a real network like here where we discuss (only 20% of time :) about demos more deeper. It's just to join 200 groups and say that you belong somewhere.
I think those sites are about casual socialization. That's why I don't find them interesting. I mean, blogs are also a waste of time, but I write there because I can analyze in deeper my thoughts, while on facebook I am supposed to write trivial things about my day and answer with sort texts. Someone will come and think "Oh, michael went out for beers, oh now he made a bath, how funny, now he went to that job interview, etc, etc". Trivial boring stuff!!! Every site is a waste of time but I like those where I can have an actual conversation (or monologue :) on non trivial things.

Optimus has leading, and for once I can proudly state that I wrote a fucking demo about it.
My theory is that creative people such as demosceners are less inclined to see socialising as an end in itself, and sites like Facebook just reduce socialising to its most superficial form - adding yourself to meaningless groups, "poking", making mundane status updates. We can call it a waste of time because we have more productive things to do, but for the majority of the population, socialising *is* life. And if you do enough of it, it gets you laid. Maybe.
well, joining the nonsense dance of "mafia gangs", "snowballs" or "see what he/she answered about you" is up to you. I use social networks in order to keep in touch with my family & friends, and for promoting my music / video works.
