Breakpoint 2009 - Everything is under control

category: parties [glöplog]
As I've heard that there have been rants about this somewhere already, I'd like to clarify on the donations-stuff:

We didn't expect to see so many visitors, neither did we expect that we'd find a few last-minute sponsors within the last 2 weeks before the party. Also this year for the first time all T-Shirts got sold out, and well, everything just went extremely well. This is how we ended up having quite a lot of money left on Sunday evening.

The way Breakpoint financials internally work are based on us always ending up with 0 Euro profit, because all money that is left is given out as prize money on Monday. This is because Breakpoint is not backed by a not-for-profit-organization. The system we use does not work if there is money left, it would be a company profit for my company which acts as the Breakpoint organisator.

We therefore now had the strange situation that giving out all the money as prizes would have offended those who had donated. At this point internally Breakpoint 2009 also was regarded as the final Breakpoint, so thinking about a way to store the money for Breakpoint 2010 hasn't been on our radar either. Paying back parts of the donations would have been an enormous task as contact/bank information would only have been available for those who purchased supporter tickets - but in these cases invoices had been issued, and it would have been next to impossible to cancel all these and re-issue new ones with lower sums etc.

Those who donated should understand that indeed it has been them who have saved Breakpoint. Your money hasn't been wasted. The prize money mostly came from the last-minute sponsors we got AFTER you guys saved Breakpoint, and it was marked as such - we could not simply have kept that or re-used it for something else. So please try not to be offended about the way things have turned out - that we made far better than initially expected.

During the next few days we'll do some more detailed accounting about the money flows. There probably still will be some money left, and now that it has become clear that there will be Breakpoint 2010, we'll most likely decide to buy a new fluffy carpet for 2010 from that.

I'll publish a more detailed analysis next week, so everybody who has donated is able to see how budgets have been spent.

@scamp; regardless i still felt my donation (although quite small) went to a great cause, I personally ain't offended or bothered by how it is used. BP09 happened. End of story!

For the purposes of scaring Bingen am Rhein council next year, 40000, all of which are very very pleased with the decision to allow the party. And in no way shape or form does that include jokes at their expense involving scamp's boot ;)

elfan: wait wait wait. You didn't get to go, but you were one of the 'I saved breakpoint' people who sponsored. Where did your Tshirt go? I mean, in YOUR case it should be emblazoned with

"I saved breakpoint and all I got was this lousy Tshirt"

and seriously, dude, I mean. I owe you like, beers.
Great, I missed the best Breakpoint ever.

The total visitor count including organizers, VIPs, supporter tickets, compo lurker tickets is ~900. Scaling-factor used for the press is 1.2. We don't have exact numbers for previous years due to various fuckups inside the infoteam in previous years, but I'd say that this is about 10-15% more than 2008, and probably more or less equal to 2007.

There were no real entries in the wildcompo. It was all planted into your imagination.

Quote:
buy a new fluffy carpet for 2010 from that

Some puffs for the front row! I would like that. But I probably won't be there next year.

Well. I made a fairly large donation as I bought the most expensive supporter ticket and I'm not pissed at all that last-minute sponsors turned up.

I have full confidence that scamp and the others will use it for whatever feels appropriate (let that be buying a new carpet or paying some money to organizers that has to deal with drunk finns or danes without pants :)

I once again say thanks for a great party and I really hope BP10 will be as good as this one (with hopefully some better quality in the (demo) compos)

truck & xrs: Aww, that's too kind of you ;). Yeah, Solskogen it is! Can't wait :D! Hopefully I won't be deported to some remote, godforsaken place in the world that time too *sob*. My career is going to ruin my scene spirit.
