The Demoscene is Beautiful! Blockparty 2009

category: general [glöplog]
phoenix kept running back and forth and installing stuff but then he said something like it kept crashing with the latest nvidia drivers or something - gotta wait for him to wake up to be 100%

all it should need for the win32 version was latest java installed and standard gfx card drivers. the cg toolkit dlls were included and the whole thing was tested.

mac version required cg toolkit previously installed, but we didnt even pass him that version.

oh well. whatever. outside party release it is.

ps, I assure you we did our absolute best to run it, installed everything we could, and worked with phoenix, but it would just absolutely crash every time we tried.

yes, i believe you. its just frustrating two parties in a row -_-

or well.. not in a row, few weeks in between.. still having to consider the prod was actually originally aimed at flashparty, which got delayed and then delayed some more :S

I think you should change your platform for an EPSON. That would never happen on an EPSON.

yes.

With the caveat that some of these may need to be re-released/fixed and the previous warning that some of these entries will have to be pulled from video across the next week or so, the releases from Blockparty 2009 will be showing up here:

http://www.demoparty.us/2009/results

We had a fantastic variety of entries! Thanks to everyone!

jscott: No, dude, thanks to you for letting me compete in the main demo compo instead of in the wildcard compo. :D

ps: fwiw, it might be better to release it outside a demoparty (or release it at a party but not in the compo). it's a lovely 9 minute piece of ambient visuals but i'm afraid the audience here wouldn't have had the patience for it.
added on the 2009-04-21 02:34:11 by phoenix phoenix
I am afraid of people speaking for whole audiences.

I don't have patience for three minute pieces of flat-beat demopop with envymapped objects and overlays. Please don't show those, kthxbye.

Knos: I'm more afraid of people starting postswith their own full name.

Preacher: You just high-kicked the entire Scandinavian demoscene :)

actually is 7 minutes long not 9 (the mp3 is longer but we fade out before the end)

anyways, here is the entry, non re-encoded to death to fit the size limits version:
http://www.scene.org/file.php?file=%2Fdemos%2Fgroups%2Fnothing%2Fnothing_ma_-_deep_win32.zip&fileinfo

macosx version is available but requires install of nvidia cgtoolkit

video up at vimeo

nothing awesome really, just some tests with shaders on processing, but we were hoping to support some cool remote parties instead of just dumping it online or at the usual big events.

out of luck this time. :)

Pretty much all releases are now available in the raw results directory:

http://www.demoparty.us/2009/results/

I am going to do a number of rounds of prettying things up, tracking down artifacts or other downloadable items, and getting video captures of the performances of the wild and oldschool and unusual releases. But you should be able to enjoy a lot of these.

Was there in fact some sort of announcement about a new mindcandy DVD at Blockparty? Did I see something about that or make it up?

gloom: Preacher more like, high-kicked the entire Norwegian scene. Thankfully we have variety here! :)

ham: there was going to be, but trixter couldn't find a video player that didn't skip frames, so we called off showing the "trailer" (a half hour of demos in 720p). We won't have details up on the web for a few weeks yet, but, we can say that Volume 3 will be PC Demos - 2003-09 and that it will be on Blu-Ray, with a standard DVD included in the package as well. Optimistic release date is end of this year, but as always that could be pushed back by unseen circumstances.
