pouet needs a Dingoo category!

category: general [glöplog]
3 demos by Fit were ported (thx zeitpunk!):

And Hellizer by the Queue Members Group:

Don´t know what a Dingoo is?

well that thingie seems to rule as a demoplatform !
comes with SDK and has a classic resolution of 320*240 !
i want one now !
Glad you like it, some more links:

It does rule as a portable demo player, i discovered demos i would never have seen on a different platform.

bit offtopic: Does someone know if it´s possible to "convert" a d64 to a prg file? The C64 emulator struggles with True Drive emulation unfortunately, but runs fine with prg files. Most demos are d64 unfortunately. ^^ Found some Oxyron demos as prg, beautiful!

Pouet 2.0... Until then, no joy. This platform is in the waiting room until then as well.

Only if the demo or game only consists of a single file. Then you can extract the file with 64copy or any similar tool for managing d64 files.

I bought a dingoo as Christmas gift to myself.

im not sure why anyone would want one of those now that iphone supports c64 emulator and other mobile phones are getting more and more powerful
Mobile phones and especially iPhones are a tad more expensive than a Dingoo or GP2X, that's why!

also, iphones can be used by random assholes to annoy you :(

Sir Dancealot, I guess the Dingoo´s got a tiny bit more emulators, but i´m not that much into the iphone, not at all actually ^^:

thx, discovered this way too, used d64 editor for that. Unfortunately, most demos are more than one prg file. Maybe it´s possible to convert it to a tape file, or were there hard disks on the C64?
Only problem is the extra cpu in the drive, always when the drive kicks in, the framerate goes from 60 to 25. :( And without True drive emulation most won´t run. What´s so different with demos, most games work fine without true drive?

Have fun with it, i´m sure you´ll like it! :)

@ d3adlydessert: look through this thread, many good deals there.

@ all: We´re still desperately waiting for an amiga emulator. Maybe someone takes up the challenge? :)

There were hard disks for c64 but they were not commonly used. You cant convert to tape and usually not to any other device than a 1541 compatible drive because demos use custom loaders which rely on the hardware and behavior of the drive. There are also onefile demos like panta rhei which relies on a drive since the effects in the demo does some of the calculations on the processor in the diskdrive.

Almost all games only load between levels and don't do anything while loading, and I guess a few games use loader routines which aren't as dependant on accurate emulation of the drive. Trackmo style demos on c64 display effects while loading and dont just show a black screen.

Yep. I almost missed getting off at the train station the other day because I was so absorbed playing the gba version of lost vikings.

I would imagine the Dingoo's open software development policy makes it a far more appealing choice for demosceners when compared to iPhone and friends.
Oh, i didn´t know that the cpu was actually used. Impressing and frightening from today´s pov. ^^

Dingoo? it's just another Linux based device and all that's likely to result from it (demowise) is a tone of boring SDL ports. Just look at the GP2X category here on Pouet. Lots and lots of boring generic SDL ports...wonderful I can't wait.

agree with rtype. Any company trying to make money off hardware sales alone is not going to turn much profit, so I don't see a future for this device. I don't see why it shouldn't be a platform on Pouet though. It's just a db record and an icon, right?

I had never heard of Dingoo until today, and have only quickly skimmed through eule's provided links. However, even a cursory glance revealed that while a Linux variant has been compiled, the official operating system is MicroC/OS-II.
well, for me it's like having another device at my desk. i bought the gp32 back in the days - and i liked it. however, i had more fun coding j2me for my mobile phone since it was easier to carry around and more of my friends/co-workers could relate to it.

if anyone wants to buy a used gp32 or nds - please bring your offer :)
at least it isn't a scamdora :)

Cool! Finally some demos (even if ports) for the Dingoo. Wiz has none.
I have both Wiz and Dingoo. While Dingoo is just a less powered Wiz without accelerator and touch, it's more cheap and has great battery time. I just bought it too (even if Wiz is a much better Dingoo) because there is a community in it.

This is my opinion on it because I am bored to write the same things here: http://plasmafun.blogspot.com/2009/12/my-new-dingoo-has-arrived.html

The first original Dingoo intro (i´d say) was released, Hello Dingoonity!
It´s way too large and not really impressive, but a start.

More to come hopefully. :)
