Old farts?

In society, there are lots of compulsive elements. People are expected to behave in a certain way. This is something I do not understand. In the past, historically viewed, most countries in Europe were monarchies. The countries were basically owned by monarchs, and the people living in these countries were their subjects, having the obligation to serve their monarchs. If somebody did not fulfil the monarch's wishes, he would die. Basically.

Now why is it still like this that people are forced to behave in a particular way, although we are living in democracies now? There is little pressure from the government to behave in a certain way. There are laws, and if you violate a law, you will be punished. But, apart from that, you are free, in theory. And still, there seem to be social customs to which you have to adhere.

Just think of Scamp. He called me "retarded" some time ago. I do not know why, but I guess that this might be due to me still living at home, and me still studying, having no job. Many people think that people at my age should be living on their own and working. But why do they think so? There is neither a law forcing you to live on your own, nor a law forcing you to work, at least not in Austria.

Scamp says that "you should be tolerant". How tolerant is he, I wonder? Being tolerant means that you do not care about other people's lifestyles.

I think that there are some habits and traditions inside people's heads which originate in times that are long gone. They make no sense from a logical point of view, IMHO. The only reason why somebody should work is because he wants to get money. As long as you have enough money to live, why work? And why live alone if it is not necessary? After all, living in your own apartment costs money. Living on one's own may be a reason to work. But as long as you do not need it, why do it?

When I need a reference regarding what "normal" people are like, I compare myself to the people from my high school class. Most of them are still living with their parents. Most of them have already completed a university degree by now (I have done so, too). A few are working, but not all of them. I'm perfectly normal. In Scamp's eyes most of my former classmates would be retarded. So be it.

Psychiatry has been one of the subjects of my studies - I know a lot about personality disorders and can conclude that I have an excellent personality, predisposing myself to professional success. (Narcissm - the belief that you are a great person - and obsessive-compulsiveness, also called "perfectionism", are positively correlated with income.)

I do not understand why there are people clinging to certain religious beliefs, why there are (German) people who would still like to win World War II, why there are people who would like to make everybody equal, and so on. I would love to lead ideological discussions with intelligent people from all walks of thinking, from all types of philosophical schools. I have not found a place where one could do that yet.

Read and reread until I really understood what was implied behind this line:

Quote:

Being tolerant means that you do not care about other people's lifestyles.

Being tolerant means you accept there are people thinking and/or acting a different way than you do. Not caring about them means that you don't care about them...

Oh and believing one should/could say whatever he wants is so "teenager like". It's ok if you stay at home all the time I guess but not understanding why people don't want to hear YOUR THOUGHTS is a nice example about how you're definitely socially inept, disregard your amazing IQ level which clearly doesn't help you understanding the concept of society.

You don't even understood one single fact: many people want you out of pouet, others just laught at you and still, you keep on posting.
A normal person, maybe less clever than you, would simply avoid pouet, thinking there is nothing for him to care about but noooooo that would just be too easy for you right?

Me, for example, I'm a stupid musician, I didn't study much and my memory has leaks... I wouldn't want to stay at a place where people laught about myself all the time, that would just be masochistic.
From my point of view as a halfassed ethnographer and natural born interaction designer i'd say that thinking that you are able to diagnose your own practice and ways of thinking is very very idiotic. However in this particular case I do concur that, while normally impossible, Adok does seem to be able to fit his own head into his own ass, thus providing him with self-insight normally hidden from ourselves - we normally need a camera up our asses to do that.

This is a remarkable feat, and perhaps this pretende... i mean, this gifted being holds challenges to established logic in psychology that self-diagnosis is the only thing less valid than diagnosis-through-questionaire.

We are bored at work, because, you know, people like us need to work, we are the PLEBEIANS!

Anyone who is still living with his parents yet he manages to be happy is a very lucky person in my view.

okkie: it's fun! He provides endless comedy value. I really hope he's doing it all on purpose, and having just as much of a laugh as everyone else. If not, I really hope he'll eventually learn to listen :) Although that probably needs a lower IQ.

I completely agree with you here Adok. I usually have problems to really understand you, and to completely agree with you, but, this time, I agree.

In Spain, people is at parents home up to 30 or 30+ (usually). I think we forget time to time that you are just 27. So, I really hope you find a job soon. I'm not sure if you want to work or not, but I think it could be a good personal experience for you.

But then, why you usually seem different to us, is not because you are illogical. In fact, you are usually much more logical than the most of us, me included. The thing what we usually find difficult to understand is that you are always "too logical", and very few times irrational / emotional. The most of the people is illogical time to time. In fact, the most of the time. And, by some illogical/group thinking reason, we expect others to be that way.

Where I'm from you leave your parents place as soon as possible to go study in a cool city and meet people and get drunk a lot and learn how life works. I left home when i was 20 and I was relatively late because I was studying nearby.

I'm soooo waiting for someone bringing the girlfriend and "I do fuck" topic, like... I WANT IT NOW.
In theory this can work if you contribute to the household. That means helping not just with rent and bills but also with cooking, washing up, cleaning etc. On the other hand it is very difficult to have an adult's life (girlfriends, family of your own) and in most societies it carries a stigma...

However I see it happening more and more often because of the recessions - young people can't get a job, so they stay at their folks for a while as a last resort.

Of course there is the case of the adult with the rich parents that spoil him since "there is no need for him to do any work"; basically setting a bad example that work is for phlebs. But that is another story altogether.

It won't feel bald if you don't stroke it (maybe stroking it too much made it bald?) :)
