Milkdrop2 is now open source

category: gfx [glöplog]
JSYK, I noticed that Ryan Geiss decided to open source his (very demoish) Winamp-plugin Milkdrop2 (actually that happened in may already).

Might be of interest for people who would like to make custom milkdrop versions, add features or just want to have a look at its aource (since Ryan is known for being quite a capable coder...).

When you think about it, that's quite a classy path.

mmx asm back in the days on geiss, then the geforce cascade, then making project natal possible, then google glass.

Or, nullsoft, nvidia, microsoft, google.

And he says he's not a tech nerd at that. I still remember the txt from geiss, 1999 or something. World seems not so big.
but yeah, Winwat?
but fytsedyf for winamp was ossom!

and yes. after 2.x winamp got too bloated to be interesting.

good thing it is completely modular and you can remove (or just not install) the bloat you do not want.

XMPlay (yes, it plays all other shit that Winamp can play, too, not just modules)
Winamp is the best. Recently started using it again. With classic skin. Nothing whips the llama's ass quite like it. Kinda miss the "sort playlist by track number" feature of the clones but whatever.

Some Milkdrop effects are really cool too. Better than the effects in most demos. But hey now that it's open source you lamers can start using it in your demos. ;) Seriously though I suppose the main value of the source is so that Milkdrop2 can be implemented into other media players.
"Milkdrop2 is open source" => lets port it to foobar2000 (as a plugin) and forget that (previously good) old winamp which is now more a bloated soft than anything else.

Also : AVS (Advanced Visualisation Studio), another very good winamp plugin is opensource too. Will WinNT kernel become opensource too ?

Hmm. I have both playing the same song right now, Winamp (lite) is using 6.6MB of RAM and foobar2000 12.1MB. Both using "0%" CPU.
+1 on foobar2000 + xm and sid plugins
Winamp has been sucking ccks for years now...

Winamp is like your childhood buddy who was your best friend when you were teenagers, but then he turned to drugs and even though he's clean now, you still don't want to talk to him.

Gargaj: that's a feature i'm missing in most audio players actually. makes me think of turning back to winamp actually. also: i'm the one who turned to drugs while winamp started to become hipster with loads and loads of bling bling around his neck and now after years i don't wanna see him because he's too rich ;)

Foobar is so much more ghetto, man! It also has 5! visualization modes! Yes!
Actually I use not a single one of them, so hard is my need for AVS and Milkdrop. BUT, there's shpeck so you can run your favorite Winamp vis in foobar too... So skip that Milkdrop port and code a demo instead!
