Ice Fucking Challenge

We leave in Zeitgeist II peoples.

I see this stupid fad everywhere.

Even this little poor girl says STFU

I was just thinking we work for demos without getting paid. We do crazy fads, wasting stuff. The neaderdal wonders, what the fuck are they doing, wasting resources? Why is that guy running on treadmill? Is he chasing an animal? We have time to read about conspiracies, to scare us a bit at night? We are wealthy enough to entertain us with IBC. And then forget about it. The Zeitgeist II.

No, it's ok. I don't blame anyone. I just think about these things and I forget my worries. Why would I need a girlfriend?

I was thinking about this: On one hand it's of course nice, that there has been much more money raised compared to last year. Yet, I despise all the people, who more or less only do it for their own ego (pouring the bucket AND then donating anyway).

But then, whatevs...

let's face it - there's nothing in a person besides the ego

@Ringofyre: Man, you just made my day with that video. If I knew it I would have clicked it times ago on youtube, I avoided it because I always liked Patrick, and didn't want to see him spoiled with this. But he delivered the best message, in his own way, very classy.

I don't really trust this thing. ALSA's compensation payments sound unneccessarily exorbitant for a charity to me - e.g. $339475 for the CEO.

Personally I think it has been an incredibly good viral marketing campaign - $70 or 80 million in a few weeks - a lot of global conglomerates would look at that sort of revenue in that timeframe from 1 marketing campaign and be quite envious.

@ Kabuto - the fact that alsa.org were prepared to try and copyright it and then dropped the idea due to bad press tells me that the people running it are in it for the money more than anything else.

Me? I think the idea's fucking stupid. Being cold for a few moments is nothing like having a degenerative neurological disease and then shame-nominating (ie. forcing them to donate) someone else is just crass. I donate to charity - I choose the charity.

@Opti - it''s nice when your idols *don't* let you down. Isn't it :]

A friend of mine was nominated for the ice bucket challenge. But she refused to participate in it because she thought it was stupid. Instead she proposed that everybody should spend 30 minutes 2 days a week on a hometrainer and do cardiac training. She subsequently nominated me. So now I am motivated to do some sports.

I'm really trying hard to be polite here.
Adok - if you don't really understand or "get" what is going on.
Maybe you shouldn't pass comment.

Thanks for all the info. Trying to copyright that, is the bomb for me.

I was watching this some time ago.

Not saying we should avoid giving charity, but usually charity giving is more of a guilt reaction, usually I don't know where my money goes and if they were used in positive ways.

I tend to follow the "Think global, act local." ideal.
The more infrastructure a charity has then usually the less money there is that actually makes it to those in need (see Kabuto's point).
Generally I don't give money to any charity that solicits. My reasoning is - whether it's door-knockers, telephones or chuggers - most are paid rather than volunteering. Hence a percentage of my money isn't going to the people I would like it to.
I give regularly to charities of my own choice and I volunteer quite a bit. TBH in Australia you've got to be a mug not to give to charities - most donations are tax-deductible.
I know this doesn't make me sound very humble but I'd rather donate stuff to and spend my money at a local op shop than give money to someone on the street who earns a commission, whose boss earns a salary etc. whereas a locally based community org run by volunteers often gets money/food/resources directly to those who need it the most.

Didnt really want to, but I just got nominated... Over here in the UK people are donating the UK version of ALSA (mnda), and doubling it with a donation to water aid, for those without access to clean water to waste on such frivolous things.
