Let the Amiga rest

category: general [glöplog]
Shane must die now.
Shane must now die.
Must Shane die now?
Die now, must Shane.
You can see what some Amiga-sceners has done on other platforms on www.dice.se. Isnt this enought???

End of thread!!!

A good hardware alone doesn't make sure that there are people with talent working with it.

Photoshop doesn't make a good painter out of somebody, Word doesn't make a good writer and a PC doesn't give anybody more talent. Either you have it or not.

Shane: Let us alone, doing what we like to do and we will let you do what you prefer, too! Even if demomaking on an Amiga isn't half as disturbing as any of your threads!!!

The Amiga will never die as long as they keep inventing new

vaporware accelerators

for it!

"I don't get what the big deal is over a computer platform. I can understand someone being loyal if they work for the company, but otherwise why does it matter about the platform?"

shane... probably you never owned a computer when you were a child, or you simply never learned to love it. Whatever the case is, you are not capable to understand ppl who are stricking with one platform. Please shut up and leave them alone.

I agree with sprocket here, much from the scene spirit is about knowing technology by heart. I watched mid-90s demos with great satisfaction always trying to catch up with latest tricks and trends but when 3d-accelerator cards became adopted i was never the same again.
I think there's still a point in making 64k and 4k intros but demo-making on the PC is now so much like video-editing. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just a different scene.
But when watching amiga demos (and i have to confess that i've never owned an amiga) i still get that "how the hell did they do that" type of feeling. Even if they rip-off their PC counterparts it's still impressive.
Wanna do something you can't to with current PC hardware? Just wait a few months and i bet it becomes available (putting RT-Raytracing accelerators aside for a moment). With an Amiga or similiar platforms that's just not possible that way.

I'm bored now.

Ok then, maybe this will convince you sad Amiga loyalists:

http://www.compfused.com/media/31pucrybw/balmercrazy.wmv

Some of us get a kick out of seeing our "piece-o-shit" hardware break a sweat pulling something incredible and seemingly impossible out. I'm as impressed by PC demos as I am with music-videos, but watching Dolphins Dream by Push Etmt makes my jaw drop. Sure, underwater scenes may be boring and trance tunes may suck, but you pull that off dude. I wanna see you do it. If not, shut the hell up and leave us to our bizniz.

We like our old outdated machines just fine.
Doesn't Dolphin Dream require non-standard hardware and additional ram?

It seems more a case of "if the Amiga handle it, upgrade" than pushing a computer to it's limits.

This is what people don't seem to understand. The Amiga is not being pushed to it's limits because it has no limits!! It can't handle the demos people are making for it so it has to be upgraded!
Shane, if I trash my Amiga, how will I be able to run DKG-Blum.lha?
Don't tell me you forgot your brainchild!

And that's their choice, which is what you don't seem to understand.

Another thing. I find it so sad that people try to justify primitive demos by saying "It's an Amiga" or "It's really good, for an Amiga"

In other words "The quality sucks, but blame the computer not the creators".

A good demo should stand on it's own merit and shouldn't need the limitations pointed out for everybody.

Another thing to remember is that there's no competition on the Amiga so mediocre demo makers are top of the Amiga scene by default.
"no competition"?!?
Try kicking MaWi's, Ephidrena's or TBL's butts, and tell us if it's any easy.

ps: try to do sth really cool out of an limited machine.. TRY IT.. it will give you satisfaction.. You will see that you have done a good job.. THATS THE POINT

Ahh...that explains :) Shane is that kid who was so desparate for a bit of attention, that he spread crap productions with a virus attached to them on the Amiga scene :)

Ahh...the memories...glad you moved on to another platform ;) (though i see that you are still in need of a bit of attention now and again).

"Try kicking MaWi's, Ephidrena's or TBL's butts, and tell us if it's any easy."

Exactly my point. You named 3 groups, and Mawi doesn't even make Amiga demos since they moved to PPC.

As for the rest of you, I'm seeing a lot of insults, but STILL no valid defence.
