Nordlicht 2015 Demoparty: 19.06 - 21.06.2015 | Bremen, Germany

category: general [glöplog]
So that's what smaller parties are like. Great, I love it! Fantastic location, relaxed and friendly atmosphere, nice compos. The BBQ and breakfast were a very nice touch, extra thank you for that!

I wouldn't really mind the compo delays either, if not for the fact that the DJs started way too late for me as a result. I would have loved to hear dojoe for example, but was too tired by then. :-/ Maybe switch events spontaneously next time? If it becomes clear that the next compo will start 2 hours late, let a DJ prepare the atmosphere for the compo first!

Huge thanks to the organizers for a really great party, and to all participants for great entries!

Guys, thanks for coming!

It was a pleasure to have you at our party and even if there was some obvious chaos at times we had a great time and everyone of us worked within human power =p My first time as orga was an intense experience.

Kylearan, a good idea for next time to make a DJ fill the gap =)

bonefish, it was my Amiga we tried to get it working on =) I'm quite happy we finally got it working. Maybe it was one of the "tools" in the startup-sequence (FBlit etc.) which made your intro looking weird. But I'm glad it finally worked =)

And! Here are the links to the party theme:

See you next time on Nordlicht'16 and we hope at the same location!

@neoman, not much that we've done there (especially hardware wise), but now since you've mentioned that, I really appreciated your effort to have it running properly. (i would actually like to get hold of the hdd image, so that I can research more what was the problem there, will contact you through wysiwtf).

that said, need to say that all of you (i've been in touch with) are amazing orga team. easy to talk to, helpful and not showing the signs of too much stress.

but i was actually referring to wysiwtf's post, where he thanked me for what I had done with his A600 - simple 15 mins job that eventually turned out to be 1-2 hours desoldering, soldering, and motherboard rework session, that was happening earlier on saturday.

bonefish, ah now I got it. I didn't know you guys were doing hardware fixes =) Thanks for saving another Amiga! I can make a backup with ABackup for you. You can reach me in #nordlicht too. Thanks a lot for the kudos =)

the bbq automagically refilled itself with new sausages the whole saturday night, so i just need to sit there, drink and grab a new sausage from time to time <3
Where there any demoscene social issues emerging?
Everything that Bonefish said... Maybe too much wellness for him and myself, but being past middle age at this stage, we are really only meant to be at wellness and not doing party coding/airport coding/train coding/48hr non-stop coding stuff... Do it at the same location, we're back next year for sure...

...What I would kindly ask - can someone share a link to:

(oops, forgot to remove unused patterns, first link should be this one)

Why does this not work on milkytracker? Throws an loading-error.

Do not ever use MilkyTracker to play IT files. Unless you really, really need a good laugh. MilkyTracker is an XM player and thus does not support many features IT offers, and I make use of plenty of those features. Being abel to use more than 32 channels is one of them, and it's the reason why the file won't load in Milky. On Mac, use OpenMPT in Wine, SchismTracker or any player that uses libopenmpt (NOT libmodplug) or BASS.
Results and all releases now available on scene.org .

Thanks for a great party. As it has been said multiple times, the Lichthaus was quite a nice location, especially compared to last year's, and I'm sure the last few remaining issues with the location can be resolved until next time (like the far too bright sleeping area). The huge compo delays were bad, but at that point there was nothing that could be done anymore. Next time, reserve more time for the BBQ and check beforehand if anything is missing and the equipment is in good shape. ;)
Many good prods were released, and the Wild compo winner was excellent. :D
Pics will end up on slengpung soon, hopefully still this week.
Until next year, I guess?

- Thus, history, future history, has now been altered, and this is the proof! Marty, we’ve succeeded, not exactly as planned, but no matter.

What a fine party this was! Every time you start out setting up a new location for the first time, you can't help but worry about how things will turn out and if it performs well. And it did really well! To my surprise, the pillars in the main hall were far less problematic than I had feared. The weather was poor on friday but it improved quite a bit on saturday which was nice for the BBQ. But I feel the outdoor area has even more potential for activities.

Although our schedule was a bit chaotic at times and we ran a little late on saturday, most of the competitions progressed nicely and the compo team managed to run everything off real hardware without noteworthy interruptions, which is quite an achievement for us!

The DHL delivery strike was very unfortunate, in the end we had to give up our hopes for stockpiles of cider at the bar, glow sticks on the dancefloor and shiny prints of the latest RETURN magazine on the prizegiving table. By the way, the cider arrived yesterday (after a 3 weeks delay), I am still waiting for those magazines however. If they show up soon I will discuss with the editor if we can donate them as compo prizes at another demoparty this summer. However we did have some awesome winner t-shirts from Topy!

I am very proud of our team (read: everyone!) who worked tirelessly during the whole weekend to ensure a smooth party experience for everyone. Way too many people, organizers and visitors alike, to mention them all here, but a honourable mention for TS and OhLi who saved us from having a terribly understaffed bar by filling in the blank time slots while the party was underway. Another honourable mention goes to RbR who painstakingly handcrafted no less than 33 trophies based on a running gag from Nordlicht 2013. I believe OhLi was also helping with tying the strings.

Thank you to our DJs and performers, dojoe, Bombe, Timbren, Franky, Ish, Computadora and the Choco Confectioneries for filling our party schedule with joy and amazing tunes right across the field of musical genres. Our emphasis was on "not just untz untz house" but a variety of styles to keep it interesting and you guys totally rocked the house!!

I want to thank everyone who has supported us through providing hardware and goodies (cyraxx, Medo, neoman, Sentcool, dfox and many others), helping during set up and tear down (Rene and other visitors who stuck around after the party and helped), Sentcool, Slainte, Bernd and others for driving back and forth in Bremen to bring stuff to and from the party place, all our visitors for creating and releasing competition entries (there were 82 of them this year!!!), and let's not forget the many many sceners who bought supporter tickets before the party and helped us lift it off the ground into space. Nordlicht has never seen so much support before and we never had people from so many different countries gathered in one place. And despite the fact I totally missed the opportunity to speak to the Danes, I think this was pretty freaking amazing to have so many cool visitors!!!! We love you guys!!!

Final thing for me to say at this point? .. we have received word from the location owner, who was very excited to have us around, that we are welcome to return next year, therefore take this as my official announcement that Nordlicht 2016 will happen, in the same party location, next summer! :)

Addendum:

Also a massive thank you to the guys of Viprinet for providing very stable internet throughout the weekend and Shadow for providing the outdoor PA system (and guarding it, too!) Daniel Hericks of Fishlabs for sponsoring the Framemeister device.

And finally, our dear and close friend fizzer who literally doubled our funds and therefore became Nordlicht's very first Platin Sponsor. He truly loves the demoscene and everything you guys do and this was his way of showing appreciation. THANK YOU, fizzer!!
