Future Demoscene Trends

category: residue [glöplog]
The demoscene is dying...

Professor Barnhardt: There must be alternatives. You must have some technology that could solve our problem.
Klaatu: Your problem is not technology. The problem is you. You lack the will to change.

Change = Evolution Of Future

VIDEO
- holographic display
- virtual reality glasses
- outdoor 3D screens
- smart lenses
- 3D fog displays
- volumetric display

AUDIO
- auditory cortex streaming
- binaural beats / monaural tones
- full surround sound

INPUT DEVICE
- 3D scanner
- dream reading machine

INTERACTION
- brain computer interface
- gestural interfaces
- massively multiscener online demo - MMOD
- metaverse / 3D cyberspace / virtual world / matrix or tron-like operating system

4TH DIMENSION / PLUS 3 SENSES
- Sensory system -> Touch, Taste, Smell

PURPOSE
digital art (non-commercial)
brainwave entertainment (commercial)
interactive advertising (commercial)
digital dreams (recreational)

There will be possibility that demogroups/democrews will become equivalent of todays game studious and game sotwarehouses... Of course true art is not commercial stuff. But I can imagine that scenners will have fulltime jobs in demogroups doing adds...

And todays kids "after hipsters" are becoming healty goth , cyberpunk ,vaporvawe...

Why not demoscene. I mean in 90s demoscene was like lifestyle culture... Like skateboarding or graffiti, breakdance... I remember that.

What you think? You can add your technology finds, research. Or how to change the course of demoscene history...

- massively multiscenner online demo - MMOD

You will interact with demo using web camera and demo effects will evolve... plus others scenners will be connected there and interact to demo too... Same as "laser midi" controller plus multiplayer game philosophy.

you are correct. demoscene should rename to techdemoscene!

Gabberscene.

They said that scene is dead already in the beginning of 90's. Those that complain should write some demos and stop complaining.

Just reciting some keywords from the first post:

Quote:
outdoor, 3D, full surround, gestural interface, 3D scanner, multiplayer, interactive

Here you go : https://vimeo.com/groups/308518/videos/137035429

The "problem" - if any - is just WHICH section of, let's call it "digital art movement", is called WHAT, and how they intersect. But nothing is "dying" here ;)

matejeusk: geez, are you not overreacting ? ;-P

Demoscene is not dying.

Moreover, we just have this strange period of time where everything is emerging and experimental - VR, new input devices, fancy projectors etc.. etc.. but nothing is yet a "final product". Some people follow this trend, while other just stick to what is ready today.

Honestly, I think demoscene never intended to be mainstream or something especially trendy.
It's even more about reflection to the past and nostalgia. Even in the history of demoscene PC adoption was really slow and up to this day some (very few, but still) people consider GPUs as too modern. It is what it is, if you don't like it, maybe you would rather join this dancing crowd in front of Kinect?

Nevertheless, if one of those experimental things "make it" to general audience, demoscene will pick it up for sure, until then it's all just experimental.

HOW TO MAYBE STOP THE DEMOSCENE FROM DYING IN TWO EASY STEPS:

STEP 1: Do stuff that makes you happy, that may or may not involve technology and/or getting paid.

STEP 2: Was it a demo?
If yes: you just helped to stop the demoscene from dying. Congratulations, you win!
If no: you didn't help to stop the demoscene from dying, but you did something else that was more fun instead. Congratulations, you win!

you can't make a demo without a coder but you can do it without music, pictures or some other not coding related person.

so the question becomes how to sabotage coders lives so that they have no job, relationships or other time consuming aspects in their lives..like games..porn..etc

i say we buy a black van and kidnap these suckers and force em to submission.

..or blackmail

I do music and 3D models... But I am coding antitalent. I can do just Turbo Pascal stuff hehe...

Dying ehm maybe It is strong word I used for describtion... So sorry guys. So maybe better word for choose is "slowing" down...

But I I wanted to start brainstorming or better research of new trends and technologies...

@HellMood: Yep exactly same s#&*t but with better graphics... But
https://vimeo.com/groups/308518/videos/137035429 is exactly what I mean...

implementing surround at a demoparty could actually be worth investigation. it's well established, mature technology (as long as we aren't talking cutting edge stuff like dolby atmos installations). ordinary 5.1 multichannel for highend demo and music, probably fallback to pro logic encoding for amiga and tracked stuff (that could work, right?). also, a dedicated lfe channel is sure to make gabber content more fun.

I'm not sure if pro logic decoding for tracked stuff would be such a good idea when almost everyone uses that effect for quickly creating a more spacy sound these days... :)

Somebody should make a demo about it.
added on the 2015-09-13 00:27:26 by mog mog
saga, i think so, since it would be routed to an actual rear speaker set. tracks that make use of this fact in a more specific way would profit from that.

somehow this thread lacks something.

Geez, if we only had a big demoscene party which attracts a lot of visitors and is willing to take that stuff to the next level.

You do know it is 2015, and there are multiple demotools around which require no coding skills at all? Here, let me help you: http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=12511
So now you have no excuse left, awesome! Looking forward to you next release :)
