The Meteoriks Awards 2019

category: general [glöplog]
The Meteoriks are back!

Just like in the previous years, the Meteoriks awards set out to honor the best productions of the year 2018, and again we're striving for a very open process by asking everyone to apply to become part of our juries!

Like last year, we're going to hit the ground running with a full set of categories. In fact, last year's categories worked so well that after a brief consideration we opted to go with the same categories as last year. Hooray for stability! :D

THE METEORIKS 2019 CATEGORIES

  • New Talent - The group or individual scener that made their most memorable entrance in 2018
  • Best Soundtrack - The production with the best soundtrack
  • Best Visuals - The production with the most beautiful and impressive art style, graphics, effects, modeling, texturing, color scheme, ...
  • Best Direction - The production with the best overall cohesion, camerawork, atmosphere, pacing, story, ...
  • Outstanding Technical Achievement - The production that most dropped our jaws as it was previously deemed impossible
  • Best Low-End Production - The overall best production on a low-end platform
  • Best Small High-End Intro - The overall best production in 8k or less
  • Best High-End 64k Intro - The overall best production in 64k or less
  • Best High-End Demo - The overall best production between 64k and INFINITY!

And as always, we can't do this alone - we need your help!

JURY DUTY

"We" - right now that is just the Meteoriks organizing team. We cannot and should not decide on the award nominees and, ultimately, the laureates of the Meteoriks Awards for 2019, and that's why we need you to sign up to be part of the jury! You know you want to!

Just so you know what you're getting yourselves into, these are your duties as jurors:

  • Review last year's productions in any way you see fit for your category
  • Identify up to five nominees
  • Choose a winner
  • One member out of each jury should represent their category on stage during the awards show

Still interested? Great, go here: https://www.meteoriks.org/taking_part/juror - and do it before Sunday, February 10th as that's our deadline for juror applications!

PROD SUGGESTIONS

Our jurors will have to wade through a truckload of prods to find worthy nominees, so they can use all the help they can get in finding the true gems in 2018's productions. You can all help them by submitting the prods you think are super worthy of receiving a Meteorik at https://www.meteoriks.org/taking_part/recommend

And so it starts! Head on to https://www.meteoriks.org/ and start participating!

We're looking forward to hearing from you!

Very minor thing I've noticed: 'meteoriks.org' doesn't have a working cert, as it's only valid for 'www.meteoriks.org' (even though both immediately redirect to '2019.meteoriks.org').

Huh, it works when I type "https://meteoriks.org/" into my address bar, but that might be Firefox trying to be smart. The web hipster department has been notified, thanks for reporting :)
added on the 2019-01-22 22:20:55 by dojoe dojoe
I get the same error as Poro, so it's not Firefox; are you sure you don't have an exception added?
added on the 2019-01-22 22:23:42 by Gargaj Gargaj
It's definitely not firefox' fault, because I'm using firefox myself.

Can confirm with FF & "https://meteoriks.org/":
Code: meteoriks.org uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is only valid for www.meteoriks.org. Error code: SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN
added on the 2019-01-23 12:56:45 by las las
Also confirmed here, both Firefox and Chrome.

Yep, turns out that my FF had stored www.meteoriks.org in his history SO HARD it insisted on opening it even though I had typed https://meteoriks.org/. One delete key later I get the SSL error too. Not that I didn't believe you guys in the first place :)
As I said, our resident web hipster is aware and will slay the mighty SSL beast in due course!

In the meantime, you should all go to https://www.meteoriks.org/taking_part/juror and apply to be a juror ;) We have a bunch of applications already - thank you all <3 - but the more the merrier!

Another 'bug report': at https://2019.meteoriks.org/categories, it says "... their most memorable entrance in 2017", which should be 2018.

Thanks for noticing! Fixed - and the SSL thing too.

Another call for jurors!

Over the past two weeks, a lot of people applied to be jurors, and we're very happy with the participation already! <3

That said, we want MOAR. More jurors mean more opinions, more participation and ultimately better results! We'd like to have a jury of at least 27 people (nine juries of three persons each), and we're not there yet, so keep the applications coming!

There are no special requirements to becoming a juror - you don't need to be a scene superstar with a buttload of releases under your belt. All we need from you is an opinion, a couple evenings' worth of time and the will to make a decision together with your fellow jurors.

Just so you know what you're getting yourselves into, these are your duties as jurors:

  • Review last year's productions in any way you see fit for your category
  • Identify up to five nominees
  • Choose a winner
  • One member out of each jury should represent their category on stage during the awards show

If you're interested, drop everything you're doing and join us at https://www.meteoriks.org/taking_part/juror right now! It's still over a week to the deadline, but why wait and forget? ;)

Juror deadline is coming up this sunday!

We received 27 juror applications so far, thank you all very much for the support! :D We'll gladly take more jurors, so if you're considering to apply, by all means do it!

Applications close this Sunday, so off you go to https://www.meteoriks.org/taking_part/juror :)

Juror application closed

Whoa.

We called, and you responded massively! We received as many as twenty-nine juror applications this year - that's a lot of volunteers and it means we can form juries at ease, so thank you all for applying :)

We're diving right in and bringing our juries together now, so they'll have enough time to watch and discuss their way through 2018. We will get back to you with nominations around the end of March.

In the meantime, you can all help our jurors by submitting the prods you think are super worthy of receiving a Meteorik at https://www.meteoriks.org/taking_part/recommend
