ChatGPT

category: offtopic [glöplog]
I thought it might be interesting to have a thread where you can post your conversations with ChatGPT, in particular such that deal with demoscene-related topics. I will start:

<Adok> What do you think about diskmags, in particular the Hugi Magazine?

<ChatGPT> Hugi Magazine is a disk magazine, also known as a demoscene magazine, which is a type of publication that is distributed as a computer file and intended to be read on a computer. Diskmags have a long history in the demoscene, which is a subculture of computer enthusiasts who create and share digital art and music, as well as write articles and reviews about various topics related to technology and pop culture.

Hugi Magazine is a well-known and respected diskmag in the demoscene community. It has a long history, with the first issue being released in 1996. Hugi Magazine covers a wide range of topics, including news and events from the demoscene, reviews of demos and other digital art projects, interviews with demoscene artists and musicians, and articles on various technical and artistic topics.

Overall, diskmags like Hugi Magazine can be a great source of information and entertainment for those interested in the demoscene and digital art. They provide a platform for artists and enthusiasts to share their work and ideas with a wider audience, and can help to foster a sense of community among demoscene participants.

I asked it to code software plasma on Amstrad CPC in Mode 0

It did recognize mode 0 was 160x200 with 16 colors, but then did out to addresses found on C64, also might hang in a 16bit wait loop. It was fun.

; plasma effect for the Amstrad CPC

; set the mode to mode 1 (160x200, 16 colors)
ld a, 1
out ($d011), a
ld a, $c0
out ($d018), a

; choose a color for each of the 16 colors
ld hl, color_map
ld de, $d800
ld bc, 16
ldir

; wait for the next frame
ld hl, $4000
wait_frame:
ld a, (hl)
inc hl
jp nz, wait_frame

Then tried to code review it, it kinda came back with some corrections after, but it's like I have to rewrite most of the tihng myself. It creates things that look like what the code would be but doesn't work.

Meanwhile, if I ask everyday things, many times it's like wikipedia or something, not very interesting. Then I got bored..

I keep getting these logs from various sources, more I see them more I think this is just a search engine that is providing results in more articular than database-record driven approach.

Nor I find intelligence, not actual chat I could call meaningful. At the end, I'm not interested to share my opinion with yet another crowd-sourced AI-bot training facility. At the end I know it ends up with yet another Google company that will feed me with ads. This time potentially more fucking clever than ever.

But I see there is plenty who are still quite fascinated by modern computing capabilities to handle NLP like if it was 2003 again.

Q How much is the fish?
A It is difficult to determine the price of fish without knowing more specific information about the type of fish, the size and quantity of the fish, and the location where it is being sold. Fish prices can vary widely depending on these and other factors, such as the demand for the fish, the season, the transportation costs, and the availability of the fish. It would be best to contact a local fish market or seafood retailer to inquire about the current price of a specific type of fish in your area.

ChatGPT can only impress someone who has zero knowledge about the topic he asks, this may lead to a very ugly situation when people will take its answer as a fact and spread it around the internet just to prove their point of view. The example that Optimus provided is very bright sign of ChatGPT being a fancy search engine that doesn't understand shit about the things he talks about, so no one should ever take these answers seriously, especially if you're trying to learn something new. Search valid source of information on your own, don't allow those dumb robots think for you, especially because they're unable to do it at all.

Snowman/Hornet asked it to generate a putsprite() for mode 13h in x86 assembler, and he sent me the resulting code. It looked fine, nothing particularly optimized, until I realized one wrong instruction in the preamble made the code do absolutely nothing.

The concern with GPT-3, etc. is that it produces 100% correct-LOOKING output while possibly being 100% incorrect, and that you need to be a domain expert to catch it.

Ask "Explain the history of the Nobel prize in mathematics" and it will write a long nice essay on a non-existing Nobel prize category. This thing will say anything to get applause, it seems.

i asked chatgpt to write me a rotozoom and he completely crapped it, looks like he has lot of issues especially with old languages.

I recently give it at try. I asked for a tunnel code in DOS x86 16 bit ode and what it did was a 64x64 tile rotation code...that is not a tunnel, dude, don't know if it would have worked, haha :-)

But then an easy task: Write x86 code to do fract() of single precision float and surprisingly he came up with a correct code bit...just he didn't know that you could do that much easier with changing the x87 rounding mode...okay forgiven.

...What impresses the shit out of me is the correctness of language. I tried feed him some questions in German, and every fucking sentence is like 98% correct German with no grammer error whatever and not like baby sentences, just very good..how the hell !?

Then another thing I asked him in German (due to a recent private car malfunction) was how to replace a car front window liquid cleaning supply pump (whatever it is in english) and he came up with a step by step solution that though it was a bit general it was basically correct.

According to German wikipedia German uni professors says it writes better presentations than most of their students...and they wanna already give up having students doing seminar papers, as they can't judge if they are from ChatGPT...may it is a coming game changer, as usual in a good and bad way...

That's the easy part, even Markov-chain IRC bots were able to do that.

That's also the dangerous part where style defeats substance - we already have enough problems where PEOPLE can sound confident without knowing what they're talking about, I'm not sure we want to procedurally generate the same disinformation.

Well, I wanted to see if chatgpt is capable of organizing a demoparty. Here's what I got so far:

Please generate an easy to understand rule sheet for a sizecoding competition, where all platforms are allowed and the maximum file size is limited to 64 kilobytes.

Size coding competition rule sheet:

  • Platforms: All platforms are allowed (e.g. PC, Console, Mobile, Web).
  • File size limit: The maximum file size is 64 kilobytes. This includes the final executable file and all assets.
  • Submission format: Submissions must be in the form of a single executable file and any necessary assets.
  • Judging criteria: Submissions will be evaluated based on functionality, code size, and performance. The smaller the file size and the better the performance, the higher the score.
  • Intellectual property: All code and assets must be original and not infringe on any third-party intellectual property rights.

Code of conduct: Participants must follow a code of conduct that includes respect for others, fair play, and sportsmanship.

Changes to rules: The organizers reserve the right to make changes to these rules at any time, with or without prior notice.

Disclaimer: The organizers are not responsible for any damage or loss resulting from participating in the competition. Participants are responsible for their own actions and the consequences thereof.
