Breakpoint 2005 after-party thread (includes results ;)

category: general [glöplog]
Alas, I wasn't present this year. After checking the releases, I'm curious why there wasn't a high profile showing from Farbrausch? I know there was fr-045: Life After from Visualice, which is fine, but no earth shattering demos / intros / 96k games as previously. Any reason? Lack of time? Planning for another party? Just curious. Some great prods all the same.

well. i guess i have to comment on music compo preselection too. so, my mp3 was not played either, and yeah, it does kinda suck cos it's the first proper track i've made in months and i quite liked it. but after a few minutes of being slightly 'down' after the compo, i just accepted the fact that sometimes (well, often) some tracks just don't get played in compos - everyone has to understand the sheer amount of entries in music compos.

so, while i thought that most of the music played in the music compos was crap, i can just say that's how it always has been! :) i guess my taste in music is, err, different. i don't really like breaks, trance, Typical Scenemusic or whatever it is that is played in compos.

uh. well.
this post didn't make much sense cos i always kinda lose track of what i've been saying for the past few sentences.

i guess my point is that if your track didn't get played, i have some advice: get over it! if it makes you feel better, you can always think that the p.s. jury are a bunch of fags! smelly ones! that stink! like fish!

breakpoint ruled!
scamp: i don't have a problem with loud music, normally i love it :)

it's just a bit harder if you had to do some final synchs to your demo/intro and there is evil noise from a running music/wild compo. anyway, only a suggestion. i know, the timetable was packed with so many cool stuff...

bp05 was one of the greatest parties ever! thank you for everything :)

pro, the time table is available long before the deadline... you will know when the loud compos are, and can plan accordingly.

Yéaaho. Party rulled ass!
Does someone has some video of BASS concert and Scene.org awards.
And some videos of me doing things on saturday night... I got 4hours balckout... :/

Only complains goes to the tracked and streamed music compos which sucked badly and were TOO SHORT.
And I don't only say that because I got unselected and stuff... I heard loads of great tunes from their composer which were not selected. This jury sucked.

And also to the (expensive) so called "food". By the way, Aldi and Minimal provided us far enough to survive decently without blowing up the toilets.

Beside this, the two main hall entrances installations were absolutely great! Never saw such kind of artwork in any party before.

Hurray too for the decent bonefire you managed to provide in the middle of a town!!!

Great party, one of the best ever!

okay, wayfinder you have some valid points, as well as rm and doh have them though... and i am sorry for leading this discussion here too harshly, also after having spoken with scamp yesterday. sorry for anyone whom i should have offended. but still, seconding doh, it wouldnt hurt playing 15 multichannels instead of 10 or smth.

Hey tomcat - greetings to you for saying nice words *cough* when I was passing your t-shirt booth...

There was so much cool things going on at the party that it's first now that I can start appreciating all that was going on. I had loads of fun, and for me it was also fun to be able to participate at all with my (our) first not-crashing-badly demo ever - our silly fastdemo without a name (we couldn't come up with one).

Anyway, I don't agree that the toilets were unclean - the work the janitors did ruled! Considering the amount of people at bp they were surprisingly clean.

And everything else went so smooth, so I'd say it was perfect also.

I love that you will put the seminars online as I had only time to attend giZMo's seminar (which was great btw), looking forward to that!

Loads of Schinken and currywurst to the organizers :>
We'll be there next year!

myeah, the music preselection was beyond any logic: it seemed like preselectors thought any track containing samples of live instruments or [vocoded] vocals was 'good quality':D // how else one could explain these badly mastered guitar-songs and wannabe-groovy neodisco tracks being played

anyway, party was great and very well organized, big up!

I must say that this was a brilliant party. Comfortwise probably the best I've ever been to. I want more parties with fluffy carpets and real heating. Big thanks to the organizers.

next time, steal/destroy/whatever the metalvotze audiogear PLEASE :P
Maali: Why? Speckdrumm had the better equipment, so VOZ was only 2nd placed this time. ;)
rofl @ the live maddenmann party report - 5:10.
Unlock:I like this avatar! My own one isn't an individual aswell. But as none of the other Scarabians are active here I wasn't proven wrong.

scamp: By increasing the meadow I don't mean to... make... errr... the impossible possible. ;) But it was abgetrennt by an absperreung and because of this smaller than it could be (because there was much more around the hall).

I have to agree on that music preselection thing. Or well, I haven't heard any of the entries that didn't make the cut, so I don't really know anything, but it does seem that the music compos are dominated by a particular type of music that I find a bit tiring. I get the feeling there's an emphasis on good mastering rather than musical qualities.

Obviously the compo is meant to be crowdpleasing, and in that respect I suppose it's alright to preselect songs that appeal to drunk Poles and Fins, but how about a music compo that targets the musicians in the audience? I haven't really heard that since the 4ch compos vanished without a trace from Mekka.

Eh, just a thought anyway.

As for good mastering, the tracks that were played in the streaming music compo had a combined dynamic range of about 20dB (average RMS) before I mastered them for the competition.

I cannot speak for the other members of the jury, but I do not go only by production quality - i seek out tracks that have something memorable, special, cool, something unique, something very well done. What exactly that is differs from song to song. Example: paniq's track caught my ear with the lyrics. reed's track caught it with the beat and the bassline. Slummy's track caught it with heart and feeling. Chimerical Child's track caught it with the chiselled ambience. jco's track caught it with the voice.

All very different tracks that I saw something very worthwile in for different reasons. It's easy to say "the preselection team sucks", but the reality is a little more complex.

(what i meant in the first sentence is that the loudest track in the compo before i did some limiting was 20dB louder than the quietest one... sorry, that came out a little unclear earlier.)

I would have a nice idea for a competition. But it needs agreement of those oldschool sceners not to complain about other's systems.

A 68xxx compo with Demos from Amiga, Atari, Sinclair QL, X68000 and whatever
A 65xx/69xx etc Compo with C64, Vic20, Atari, Dragon32 and whatevers with this CPU
a Z80 compo with MSX, Speccy, Zx81 machine. Maybe this would fill up some entries and give some people a chance to show whats going on on their system...

I'd like to offer our good name Metalvotze being responsible for anything that went wrong at BP05, including too loud backgroundnoise, preselection, demo quality, unclean toilets, too small meadow, rubbishheaps at the parking lots (okay, that was really ours, har har), ...
