category: general [glöplog]
@bonefish: Thank you! (I was checking the assembly.org timetable, which says no such thing)

Well that was fun. Thanks.

In case anyone is wondering where are the Assembly entries: ftp.scene.org is accepting my upload at a blistering 800-900K/s and there are 23gb of entries. At this rate it’ll take about 60 hours for the upload to complete

The seating capacity for the area where the oldschool compo was shown was insufficient by a factor of about 3.

I was quite bummed that I wasn't able to finish an entry for the oldskool democompo and let's just say I wasn't bummed anymore after I saw the size of the Genelec-stage where the compo was displayed. The size felt kind of disrespectful towards the participants in the compo, and I would much rather see the entries on the main stage even if it means that 50hz PAL would be shown at 60hz.

I've complained about this before, and the answer was basically that “we had to move ISPs and don't have infinite bandwidth anymore, plus there's a VM issue”. :-/

I probably won't stop going and submitting stuff (despite what the voters think), but the shrinking stage and the chaotic drumming from the neighboring stage during oldschool and tracked music, ONCE AGAIN, after it's been the same problem in many previous years, is really sending a message about where they want the sceners to go. I watched the oldschool demo compo at the AirBNB instead. Maybe someone should rent an old school somewhere nearby?

What Tero Myr said

...plus demoscene program was now forced to such a tight schedule that it was possible to have just one compo studio (after ~six hours of incessant compos). In addition to oldskool demo also wild and film compos had been transferred to a small stage.

Thanks to the scene crew anyway.
We need a new category for demos being "one minute" not "one scene". All ASM one minutes are there as one scene now, which is misleading.. - someone gonna act on that?

And the 22h of Assembly I had a chance to experience at site this year was a blast - well done all orgas on that!!! \o/

And about the oldskool at the genelec stage - the main problem (in addition of it being too small for the audience this year) is the lack of visibility for all assembly audience. Could be mitigated in many ways, but probably most influent could be to have clear hosting sessions before and after the compos on the main stage about the compos.

Whoever added the one minute demo compo there and moved all one scene entries there now - THANKS!

We also need a new "ai coding" category instead of "coding" 🙏

Do we though?

I saw that too and found it funny. It's ironic when the "coding" category is the one involving not coding :)

Indeed. Yesterday, I suggested exactly that on the "fix me beautifull" thread.

I hope someone fixes it soon because it's ridiculous that these prods have to be shoehorned into categories with misleading names.

"celebration of gaming culture"
"not coding" as a category name

Maybe ”GenAI demo” if we expect these kinds of slop compos to happen at other parties as well.

Oh, I hope this compo stays exclusively here in *cough* scene coachella.

Where can I watch the recording of this compo? It seems to be missing among the AssemblyTV Twitch videos, and YouTube has only the individual entries.

I'll eat my words a little bit.. I think the schedule worked out pretty well!

I was around for a couple of juries and I didn't even see any entries getting cut to fit the tight schedule. Maybe there were some cuts I missed?

I'm still salty about cutting the compo studios though..
