My demo scene sellout

category: general [glöplog]
Any partnership (or any activity, for that matter) steals some time from some other activicies [now that was clever!]. That said, a girlfriend/wife/children/job/studies doesn't automatically imply that you should quit the scene RightNow. Yes, you'll probably attend less parties and/or do less prods. So what?
Yeah, I have a wife, a small kid, a job and just finished studies. It's hard to do demos in addition to that, but it's doable. Oh, I attend almost no parties, so I'll probably shut up now...

When I'm 40 I'm still gonna appreciate creativity and art.

(Ok, yeah, I'm prolly gonna continue to diss the popular forms, TV and movies. But hey. I'm a hypocrite (: )

Anyway, point is - from all of us - we're saying go have your life. Just, hold onto your past. It's part of you. It doens't have to be ALL of you. But throwing some part of you away? Ain't worth it. Cut down, sure, go for it. Just - well.

You didn't mention what you were keeping (:

I remember reading FC's info file which was included with every release. It said that some FC members already had a gf or were at university. I was just at school that time but wanted to have a gf as well. It should take ten more years then to make this dream come true.

woah!

It's nice to see that your lifelong demoscene-dream, to have a girlfriend, has finally come true. Now you're truely like the members of Future Crew. Congratulations!

Will you sign my demoscene cd's?

Anyway, thanks for this thread, it made me laugh my ass off :))

I'm keeping the joy, knowledge and interest in computers, art, scandinavia, perfectionism, networking and teamwork, the sharing of special techiques. It's not like losing my religion or dropping my own past. I'll still enjoy situations that remind me on the old days and the fun I had. Yet I feel that it's time to end one thing to start a new. I guess I'm a person who needs to completely get finished with one thing before a new one can be started. That's why I also quit record collecting. That was another passion of mine for more than five years. Now even my grand turntable is for sale. If at some point in the future I will need one again then there's no problem obtaining one I think. Same for the CD's. If in like 15 years my kids come up with interest in computers and related art, those CD's might not be of much help. What do I know which system they are going to use. And just to show them some old demos I still can pull out the Mindcandy DVD or grab a demo from scene.org.

Hey Adok, it was a pleasure for me to open this thread for your fun. As you may imagine it was not meant to be a joke. Sorry if I are too different for you. I always wanted to explore more than a computer. :)

adok, the funniest thing here so far is *you* laughing at a guy for taking 10 years to get a girlfriend.

It's funny and interesting and then funny.

As for the CDs. The guy said he wants to clean up his place by selling what he won't possibly need in the near future. Afteralls, he can archive the scene from the internet whenever he feels that he wants to remember his youth. It's just a diferrent feeling than mine and many of the sceners still trully attached to the demoscene. I wouldn't do that thing ever and I also wouldn't sell some of my old computers I collected even if they take a lot of space in my home. A friend of mine says "Why not sell them all? Afteralls you have everything compact in just one PC. Emulators!". I would never sell them even if I had the most accurate emuls. And I don't feel ugly with a room full of computers as others do. But it's not the same with the other guy. I don't know if he regrets it or not. Possibly not and yes. And I am not making much sense here..

Girlfriends? Wow,. that's still my nightmare drug! =)
It's a drug I haven't tested. It's a good life drug (ahhh my ears, stop that altemark scenemusic!!!) and perhaps a dangerous one, but I have to test it if I ever can. And no, I don't look at nude pixel gfx much, I mostly look at wicked demoeffects. Horny codepr0n for my brain!!! ;)

That FC info was funny. I never liked it..

[THE DEMOSCENE FORCED ME TO GET A GIRLFRIEND!]

well... it sounds like you quit all hobbies and stuff you did before you got to know your girl. now your girlfriend is your new hobby...

hmm. sounds like you are in a deep love now.

anyway, don't you think it will get very very fast boring for her, (and possible you) if she is your only hobby?

hmm. girlfriends leave, love passes. true friends stay. remain on your hobbies, never give up to many for a girl. (this is also good for your relationship, believe me.)

blalalablabla,

i'm going to quit with my gf tomorrow, so i have more time for coding ;)

I will write some more crap here cause I can :)

In the same terms, getting a girlfriend must be a 10 years dream for me too, since I am 25. But then I realised that nobody needs 10 years to do this if he really wants. If I was really into, I would do anything and change everything in myself to achieve that. I realise that it might be too easy (few months, weeks or days of trying, depending on your luck) if you are hooked into it. And the problem is that I am not much these days. I am still living in my world and even if sometimes I am tempted to try this drug, it's just meeting a girl in real life who moves the slight inner workings a little but then I forget it to think about code. 10 years was not my dream but my nightmare. My fear of people pointing at me and yelling "Look! He is 40 and still a virgin!". My personal motivation for a girlfriend, even if existing, are not half as high as the geeky stuff I am fiddling with. But perhaps I never had a girlfriend to know what I can't see. Time will tell..

Not related to the guy who started the thread, just my thoughts. Your 10 years obsession might have nothing to do with mine. No offense :)

i thought writing a thread about quitting the scene was useless. the way people take this as an opportunity to keep shitting about it is dumb.

let him go, have his life. what's the deal? where's the problem?

I'm all in love with Stefanie.

Her hands, her eyes, her lips.. I can't put the luck into words to describe the feeling of joy and happiness that she brings into my life. Today she will, for the first time, sleep at my place. I've been waiting for this day, friday, the whole week long.

no offense.

but thinking about quitting everything for a girl he knows since a couple of weeks SUCKS. i would understand it if he is in a long-term relationship, and has no more time for his demoscene activities.

but this sounds so "i have a new life/quit everything/live for my girl" ... this is VERY dangerous.

just my 2c

What's the danger?

p.s. That sounds too obsessive. I wish I could be half as emotionally attached to a girl. Or not? I want my (scene)life!!! :)
added on the 2005-06-14 14:32:50 by Optimus Optimus
Optimus: The danger is that he's all full of luck, joy and happiness now, but there's no guarantee that these feelings, not to say SHE will stay. Giving up the "rest of your life" for something as unstable as a relationship, and especially something as known-as-unstable as a FIRST relationship, will most probably end in a long, deep fall onto a cold, hard ground.

Sorry for sounding so harsh - sirdan, of course I'm wishing Stefanie and you the best (I'm in a relationship for four years now, so it actually can work, as it seems ;), but don't bet everything you've got on her and your feelings. It might work perfectly, it also might leave you burnt out and alone in the dark though.

And, well, this reminds me just too, TOO well of the time and myself when I was 18 and "not yet goth". Figure out the rest.

Besides, girls really don't want to be worshipped all the time or even appreciate the fact that you're throwing your away your old life just to be with her. Most girls, at least. You need to have your own hobbies, own friends and own time, if you're ever going to succeed in a relationship.

yeah, i second you all.

she got to know, she started to love you due to the fact WHAT you are. Do you really think she will like you more when you give up everything you did before?

Okkie: yeah, I once saw a guy finishing the demoscene, but the end sequence was very poor and the game restarted.
