Bested effect ever made: Sprite multiplexer. Never again another effect had so much impact on me. I can not describe the feelings I had when there were 16 sprites on the screen for the first time.
the voxel "kjøttkake" twisters and balls in Zif by Parallax rules bigtime.. i want to do such voxelballs too.. argh.

I think anti-truck-code is one of the best effects since it checks for the physical presence of a special person in front of the computer. ;)

It's hard to think of a best effect, since most effects only look good with other effects.
For historical reasons I would choose rotozooming.

For me personally, it's Dweezil's chaoszoomer. And yes, Tizzy sort of did the same thing earlier but his version wasn't nearly as cool. The one in Bananamen just blew me off my feet, and it's such a nasty trick too. :)
