Dutch color scheme???

category: general [glöplog]

What's that? I had seen a dream some weeks ago where I logged in Pouet and started this thread. In my reality as also in my dream, I was wondered what is that dutch color scheme everyone is talking about. Which colors define it? Why do they suck? Why is it from Holland??? Who invented it first? Who invented the term first? Tell me some prods with characteristic Dutch color scheme to see if I like it ;)

Mu thread seems from one side funny and from the other side serious. Hehe. I wanna learn more about the Dutch color scheme. How about the Greek one btw?

I also remember 2,5 weeks ago, when I had first seen this dream that I saw other things at the tsame dream that I thought to share with you, but I really don't remember now what was that, probably some other weird DejaVu thing, demo stuff, or probably another female scener in my dreams :)

But I think it's better we only talk about the Dutch color scheme now..

asd demos are dutch color scheme aproved for example.

basically if you have a scene with yellow red and blue and then change to one pink green and purple and then into blue white and grey. its dutch scheme approved.
the white flashes on drum/snares are considered dutch color scheme compliant but they do not necessarily render the demo a dutch colourscheme approved production.

for further understanding of the complete deeper meaning of dutch color scheme aproved prods please watch all dutch prods.
for counter examples of dutch color scheme approved demos we have for example chimera/halcyon. which all self praising dutch colour scheme follower will happily and imediatly condone as pure boring senseless crap.
thus, dutch color scheme, became a way to randomly insult and indulge into bickering design discussions amongst many people within the so called demoscene analyst.

if you are hesitant towards if a demo is dutch color scheme approved or not please consult your closest scene veteran. im sure any self praising bored to death scener will gladly discuss with you if a particular prod is dutch color scheme compliant or not.
you wouldnt believe the enormous happy hours we spend on irc discussing this very issue for each particular production.

afaik the phrase "dutch colo(u)r scheme" was invented by macaw some years ago, and later, everybody started to used it. ;)

another way to judge if a prod is dutch color scheme approved is if contains more then 8 diferent colors on screen at any 1 given effect.

another is to look for pastel with puke green and pink.

do notice that despite most dutch color scheme approved prods coming from holland it does not render that all dutch people follow this scheme (thank god for 3state) also it does not render that it must be from holland to be dutch color scheme compliant. lots of french, swedish, polish and hungarians strived to achieve what the dutch been trying to leave behind (or so i would like to hope) for half a decade now.

one of the reasons why squish by AND does not suck is precisly that it is a psychedelic intro WITHOUT beeing completly dutch color scheme approved.
now this small fact, inside the psychedelic trip "goa" kind of productions is a very big plus nowdays.

i hope you are enlightened now optimus. :)

Good thing that it wasnt an american that invented the "dutch color scheme", otherwise people have had to pay royalties for using it.

as i remeber it - i started writing "dutch color s(c)heme" on csipd some years ago too troll on the dutch people for being too color-happy :-D

other peeps then took over the term and founded the dutch color scheme approval committee.
Macaw: Who are the members of the "Dutch color scheme approval committee" (DCSAC) ? :)

macaw: that term is probably your best contribution to the demoscene. :D

I get the feeling that people take dutch colour scheme compliance too lightly. it is, however, fairly tricky to be able to use the scheme while not being completely randomizing the on-screen colours. it is a delicate and fragile process, mastered only by a happy few.

having said that, not complying with the scheme while still being dutch is something that is very tricky to extremely hard.

mother mother my ears bleed / mfx is dutch colour scheme approved for example and manages to stray away completly from the usual dutch colour scheme compliant productions.

saga: i did see some dutch colour scheme maskaraded as pseudo-retro memories on the beggining of sonnet. so dont compliment yourself too much ;)

do not forget that the a healthy portion of tacky effects is also part of the ISO-DCS standard.

sagacity: luckily you comply with the ISO-DCS. quad, anyone? :)

ps: i'd admit that chimera was a less pathetic attempt to 'art' than 'top tiny redexit', but it still wouldn't be right, even if they mapped RGBPLASMAPURPLEGREENYELLOW.JPG on the object that seems to appear.

as I said, it can sometimes be extremely hard to steer away from the dutch colourscheme, as a dutchman so occasionally it sneaks back in!

embrace the scheme.

plek: redexit's point was very well achieved imho actually. the fact no one else but me actually gets it is not a - but a + in my eyes.
i considered posting a few written things that would maybe enlighten some few people but i decided not to bother.
maybe in time someone will get it. maybe no one ever will. i couldnt care less eitherway actualy. :)
