Demosceners and MMORPG's?

category: general [glöplog]
A year ago, I got gripped by World of Warcraft, and have ended up not doing anything demoscene related for several months now, save for visitting TRSAC05 (very cozy party). Now I feel like comming back to the scene, writting a super bad GBA demo for BP06, soiling the name of Scoopex once again.

I am just curious, how many sceners are into WoW, or other MMORPG's, and how far into it are you? I have spent an average of 5 hours a day playing, and now I have a rogue with full bloodfang, and play in one of the server's top guilds. I have left temporarily to come through with some schoolwork, though.
I play WoW maybe couple of hours a week.

I see a lot of people playing Lineage 2 for hours and days here on the netcafes. I've heard that some greek sceners were playing that game too recently. Sometimes I'd like to try because I like RPGs, though when I see other people playing I really don't want to get stuck. I see a person waiting and waiting for the party to gather, jumping around to just go and kill some dragon or something, big world, sometimes it takes a long times, people are sleeping(!) in the netcafes to continue the next day (And then they thought I was the geek ;P), some funny older people who have lots'a money and spend their life there, my brother knows them, they are famous at the place!

Anyone for one round of Unreal Tournament? ;)
Ahh,. I miss this too. I once knew people on the netcafe were my brother used to work and we were playing together each weekend, I was good enough against them at the equal level. It was fun! Now I have months to play again..

p.s. Radiant and her scene friends are playing Lineage 2. Also Apomakros/Nasty Bugs has an UT clan. But I never managed to play with. Internet servers in UT are still lagging a bit here, even in netcafes ;P Also, the UT2003/4 is not registered and I am not allowed on the internet servers. I used to play only through LAN..

I play Everquest 2, on Guk. My main character is a level 63 high elf templar/carpenter. I have a few other characters too, including a level 22 ratonga defiler:

As a demo scener, I hate all MMORPFUCKG and all MMORPFUCKG gamers are all boring schyzophrenics to my mind.

( ... should I feel guilty about that or may I hate the whole world uniquely for being unperfect ? I don't know. )

WoW is the devil!

Anyway, hating gamers believing it's in the whole "demoscene legacy" is so fucking last decade. Yawn yawn...

I played some EVE Online, but I can't understand how people can get so immersed in online gaming. Gave up after a month or so, when it had become boring and repetitive.

The feeling I got from people who appeared to play those games is that they were work, not play. No thanks!

It all depends on the people you play with. If they're interesting folks, and enjoyable to be around, it doens't matter what environment it is, it's enjoyable.

But I have a ton of demos to finish first, so I am avoiding playing any of them. Cept irc.
also, Graga, code something dammit (:
Used to play some MUD game when I was at the university if that counts. Never got hooked on it though, it was just "X enters, X leaves" before you had a chance to type "hi" or anything.

i've put almost 200 hours into Guild Wars. it's rather addictive. :) i played WoW for maybe 4 hours before getting terribly bored. haven't played Everquest 2 cuz of my low opinions of EQ1. what's good about it mermaid?

I've played *a lot* of Guild Wars. I'm afraid to do /age to find out exactly how many hours I've wasted since May 05, but I have a feeling it's a 4-digit number.

Used to play EQ2 as well, but that got too time consuming. Fun game though.

Spent 70 days == 1680 hours on WoW. That's about 4½ hour a day.
You should all play Progress Quest.
