play oldschool tunes in a click

category: general [glöplog]
http://www.plopbox.net

find an play the best tunes, add yours. make a playlist and have your own little web radio.
a quickly growing database, a living oneliner, and some nice stuff coming

enjoy!

Very cool! I guess it requires at least java 1.3? Nice to have all those formats replayed within the same applet. Rez is probably 100% horny with that one ;)

If you have some time someday, it would be even better if you could switch your Atari emulation from YM to SNDH engine, which sounds more accurate (much more complex to implement though)

Also, you need tunes from Big Alec, Dma-sc and Timbral in the YM list, they made some masterpieces you don't want to miss.

Congrats java freak, excellent applet :)

Thanks, but no thanks. I'd rather download all the files in a rar-ball, and play them back without having to depend on internet access and/or the existence of that site.

That site is awesome.. I love it. Yeah, I also prefer to have the tunes locally on my harddrive - but this is perfect to explore the available modules and find cool new tunes which I didn't know before. Also, it's great for my iBook because there's no really good module-player for MacOS X.

This site is not awesome. It's a nice idea however. But, as usual, the core of these kind of projects is .. the replay. And it's bad. Come-on, you want a good replay ?. Ok, get the ASM src code of PTK v2.* and v4 on Aminet. Also, grab Noisetracker somewhere and resource it. That's for Amiga mods only, and it's a minimum to do. XM are, of course, not handled correctly for a XM is a bit more than the .txt made by Mr. H. Anyway, good luck in you project but I'll stick to UADE.

Btw, that java player is GREAT, ok there's some bugs in the replay here and there but all in all it's a great idea.

Not everybody takes all his music with him everywhere, especially at work, so it's nice to be able to listen to music from a web page (i guess nitro2k01 is some wanker/unemployed/student).
Also, even if there's some (minor) bugs in replay, the sound quality is FAAAAAAAR better than some other loosy scenemusic radio. Also, you choose YOUR playlist, you havn't to listen crappy Cyborg Jeff and Elwood doskpop all day long (like on scenemusic).

You can start to flame me NOW.
(*ha* yes, i like *ho* when you spank *ha* me)

i must say when i first read the topic's title i was sleepy and i read it as "play oldschool tunes in a dick" after 3 hours now i can read it correctly! Plus what optimus didn't say as a good thing... [includes: great, orgasmic, fantastic and so on...]

Rez: Good replays _already_ exist !. And no, I'm not a good coder. Just a nobody who bothers its ppl with unimportant matters. What I find strange is that you, a musician, accept these kind of behaviour. See, for example, try to imagine you're doing gfx instead of music for a minute. Say you draw a nice pic with Deluxe Paint or Degas Elite (Heh :) but when looking at it on a "see your oldschool pics in a click" website, you'll notice that blue is red ... hum ?. And of course, you won't complain since you can do this proggy yourself !. Yeah !. *bravo*, *encore* !.

all my thumbs up, but

there are some extremely sloppy bugs

- after pause pressed time counter goes mad, and the tune never progresses to the next one after played.
- one of the menus flashes in randomly
- I couldnt register because my email adress is longer than the maximum number of characters the textbox accepts
- sometimes the player hangs when the decrunch effect is shown
- stop button would be handy to restart the music.
- when I click on some other tune the interface is annoyingly unresponsible, sometimes I have to click several tunes until finally one of them starts to play

hope someone reads this and fixes these, as they are max annoying, but shouldnt take more than 5 minutes to fix them.

nice thingie, but something i'm missing is a configuration-tab where you can configure the player.
the most important thing there would be the stereo-channel seperation-slider, because when listening to 4 channel songs with headphones the chansep is sometimes very straining.
anyway for me this site beats nectarine by far as everybody can listen to their favourite pieces and not the queue of a random DJ.

Ben: But that's exaclty what I like at nectarine. With it I've discovered several demos and gems, I maybe wouldn't never have seen without it.
Cream of the Earth is satisfactoraly replayed. *thumbs up*

I like nectarine for the exact same reason as MadenMann mentioned.

But this site is a very nice addition. Seems to be quite a load of work that went into building it.

madenmann: nectarine is too much polluted with BAD music because the selection of uploaded music isn't enough "strict".

of course I discovered new "gems" on nectarine too, but i think you can discover new tune (and faster) on plopbox by seeing the best ranked.
