Your favourite player for tracked music?

category: general [glöplog]
I'm looking for a good music player, tried DeliPlayer, Winamp and foobar but noone could play all common tracking formats..
Now i want to know what's the Tracked-Music player of your choice?

Allas, there is none better than other because each players have its pros and cons.

For example sonique is extremly easy to use and can play lots of formats like mod / xm / ... with additional plugins, you can add lots of demolike effect visualizers, ...

Itune is really simple and surely the best soft for playing mp3 if you don't require anything else than good sounds.

Delitracker is the must for all strange formats used on ST / Amiga / Nintendo / ... But the interface suxx big time and it's strange menus are a hell. Sound is great but you'll have lots of problem when it comes to play sequencially some strange modules (ST madmax / Amiga Chiptunes with multiple songs): you'll need to click etheir they will play in loop lots of time. That's why I don't use anymore deliplayer. And it's no more maintained: I've send email but didn't get answer from the author. I'm registered but I'm sure he has a real time consuming job now and can no more manage deliplayer project.

As a MAC user I use Itune and find it great for mp3. I've specific players for mods like cocomodx for mods / xm / ... And Sidplay for sid.

Have fun.

I generally use Winamp. With a couple plugins, it will play pretty much any tracked format.

DeliPlayer can play everything I have (a *lot* of formats) , except Viruz II :-/
Sadly, it's been a while (...) since it's been updated... I also like the configurable interface. I gave xmplay a try and it sounds just as good (= correct) but I'm hooked on DeliPlayer.

Anyway. UADE for Amiga formats on non-Windows.

If you're stuck on a dos-based ancient system, XMplay; use the oldsk0Ol player plugin for Amiga bits.

If you're on osX, UADE is in darwinports.

I'll avoid ranting about how crap Modplug player is and just give fuckings to mikmod for not even coming CLOSE.
NEVER use modplug, it's so bad it's unfunny and doesn't handle all the cmds in .mod formats so sometimes misses out entire channels as it gets confused. Try listening to the orgasmically good Cream of the Earth by Romeo Knight for example with modplug, it completely butchers it.

But, on Amiga HippoPlayer is awesome imo. Both that and Eagleplayer can handle pretty much everything i'd say including all the old custom game tracker formats for playing gems like the Quadralien theme in David Whittaker's own format as many of his tunes were.
Basically you want a replayer that can handle most formats from Exotica, and that leaves you few choices ;p

http://www.exotica.org.uk/tunes/unexotica/games/Quadralien.html :)

For Win, yeah XMPlay will handle the most popular formats, on Linux UADE works a treat.

mpp. Plays everything I did - including some pretty player demanding stuff - and every mod I still have correctly. Except for adlib-ed S3Ms. But I guess there's no player around that does. Not that it would matter much anyway. So, it might not emulate every FT2 player bug to the fullest, but it's "good enough" for me. If there's something you should never use, it's the default winamp mod player plugin.
